Celerra NFS Plugin Fast Clone Fails w/ VMware DPM Enabled
EMC Celerra NS-120
VMware vSphere 4.0 Update 1 DRS/HA cluster
2 HP DL385 G2 hosts in the cluster (one is ESX 4.0u1, the other is ESXi4.0u1)
Distributed Power Management enabled at the cluster level
1 host in standby mode due to DPM enablement
Performing a Fast Clone operation on a powered off VM on an NFS volume results in the attached error message. Solo is the host which is in standby mode due to DPM. It would appear the Celerra NFS plugin does not like it when all hosts in the cluster are not available for Fast Clone placement. Part of the issue is that when choosing a destination for the Fast Clone, one can only choose a cluster or resource pool. An explicit host cannot be chosen or avoided as a workaround for the standby issue. So when a resource pool is chosen, the plugin tries to enumerate the host in standby mode or place the fast clone there, and it fails. I verified this by bringing Solo out of standby mode and the Fast Clone operation succeeded.
