When executing a symrdf split or establish on SRDF/A, when should the "-immediate" and "-full" options be used?
When executing a symrdf split or symrdf establish commands on an SRDF/A storage group pair, under what conditions should the "-immediate" and "-full" options be considered and used and or not used?
Below is the CLI syntax for the symrdf split and symrdf establish commands for reference purposes.
Storage group operations specific to SRDF/A
symrdf -sg -sid -rdfg
[-bypass] [-noprompt] [-i ] [-c ]
[-v | -noecho] [-force] [-symforce] [-star]
[-hop2]
split [-immediate]
establish [-full]
Options
-immediate Applies only to SRDF/A-capable devices.
Causes failover, split, and suspend
commands to drop the SRDF/A session
immediately.
-full Requests a full establish or restore
operation. By default, if the -full option
is not specified, an incremental
establish or restore is attempted.

Hi lyletj,
The -immediate forces the failover right away and -full waits for the next cycle switch. -immediate is used when normal failover isn’t working or there is some other issue preventing it.

When executing a symrdf establish command on an SRDF/A storage group pair, under what conditions should the "-full" option be used and or not used? Is there a down side performing an incremental versus a full restore and vice versa?

Hello ThortonMellon,
Here are the Description for each.
-immediate: Applies only to SRDF/A-backed devices. Causes failover, split, and suspend actions to drop the SRDF/A session immediately.
-full: Requests a full establish or restore operation.
