VMAX 40K - General Storage question
Hi,
I am just trying to figure out how to understand storage on a VMAX 40K. If I view the storage from the thin pools shows below the VP_SATA_R6 is 92% full, and 11,388.10 GB (~11 TB) is available. If I start creating devs and bind it to that pool, would the capacity increase?
[root ~]# symcfg -sid xxxx list -thin -pool -GB -detail
If I run "symdev -sid xxxx list -noport" to list all of the devices that are not binded to a pool, could I use those devs to bind to a thin pool to increase the pool's capacity? What if the devs had data written prior and during decommissioning the server, the devs were only removed from the pool instead of being deleted? Is there a way to check the devs prior to binding to a pool? Or, after the devs are assigned to a Storage Group they would need to be formatted by the host?
Thanks,

Hi,
It may work and you will be able to add them and rebalance. However it is recommended that they are the same size and raid level.
