Modify SRP of Storage Groups in VMAX3
There were some Storage Groups which were created using SYMCLI and srp option was not provided. The devices are now sitting in a particular Thin Pool and not on SRP and hence there is no SLO on them. Want to associate these storage groups to a default SRP (we only have one SRP) and then ultimately bind them to SLO. Can someone please suggest if modifying a Storage group and associating it to SRP is an online activity and has no negative impact on host or the array ?

Yes, changing the SRP on a storage group is an online operation. Given that you only have one SRP, the Default SRP is already assumed if one isn't explicitly applied.

Hi KW160, Thanks for the reply.
So, these storage groups were created using symcli command without specifying -srp option. If they would have been created using Unisphere GUI they would have picked default SRP. Right now all the devices in the SG are on one of the Thin pool (FC pool) and when i see in Unisphere there is no SRP and hence SLO shown against them. So, i am looking to associate such SG's to a SRP. Now when i will associate a SRP and then SLO to a SG how data migration will take place at the backend. Will array start reallocating data extents among different pools in the SRP as soon as i associate SG to SRP ?

What I'm saying is that if you only have one SRP the data must reside in in that SRP. There are no pools that are outside of the SRP. So even if you left that option off the original SG creation command and the SG is not explicitly associated with an SRP, that data already resides in the Default SRP. In your case explicitly associating the SG with the SRP will cause absolutely zero change or data migration.
Now, adding an SLO WILL likely cause data to move in order to meet the service times associated with that SLO.
In either case, associating an SRP as well as associating an SLO are online operations and any data migrations that are required will happen in the background.
