Hot Push Open Replicator from VMAX to VMAX3 for a Cluster
Hello,
I will be working on setting up a Hot Push OR session from a VMAX to the new VMAX3 and I have a few questions on setting this up for a cluster (both windows and Linux).
1. the zoning between the VMAX's is in place
2. Storage Allocation of the storage from VMAX 3 to the VMAX using Auto provisioning groups is in place
3. I have the OR file ready to go
4. I will be using -precopy to create the OR session so the background copy is active
This is spot I need help with
5. Once I activate the OR session and the copy completes, how do I know which host in the Cluster should I be bringing up first? Should all the hosts in the cluster be shutdown prior to the cutover? Is there a way to know which host was active prior to shutdown (of the cutover)?
If anyone could please help me with the steps I need to follow after the activation of OR session for a cluster so I can communicate them and work with our Sysadmin that would be extremely helpful. I really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Sumanth

1. All nodes in the cluster should be down during the OR activate. Once the activate has started, no more writes can be directed at the source volumes.
2. There is nothing specific to OR regarding the cluster functions. Treat bringing up the cluster however you would treat any other cluster power-off/power-on maintenance activity.

Correct. They'll do a "create" with -precopy, which will get most of the data over. Then they'll bring the cluster down and perform an "activate" which will copy the remainder of the data. Once that's complete they'll do a "terminate" and bring the cluster up.
