FastCache in VMAX3?
I am currently working on 2 VNX 7500 arrays. To meet the rising loads, we are planning to migrate to VMAX3 soon. To acquaint myself with it, i have been researching on it, and also plan to enroll in a training program.
Since i am still in my early days , I had a few questions in mind. First off, I'd like to know how FastCache or its equivalent in VMAX works. Or if it has been superseded by something else, it would be great if you guys could throw some light on it.

Hello,
There is no "fast cache" equivalent in the VMAX3. Caching in the VMAX is different in terms of its composition given the hardware architecture of the VMAX3 and the Dynamic Matrix Architecture. Caching in the VMAX3 works incredibly well and is a main reason for why it is such a scalable array, but it works differently than utilizing fast cache.
Without getting into the weeds too much about it, the best place to probably start is the VMAX3 product guide which can be found here: https://support.emc.com/docu55492_VMAX3-Family-Documentation-Set.pdf?language=en_US
Pages 18-25 or so might be helpful.Another guide that will detail how FAST works in the VMAX3 and might be more of what you are looking for in terms of data placement is this one: https://support.emc.com/docu55786_Service-Level-Provisioning-with-Fully-Automated-Storage-Tiering-(FAST).pdf?language=en_US
Hope this helps some,
-K
