Will MSE prevent this sneaky virus entering my computer?

Hi

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8624560.stm

The above suggests the sneaky rootkit virus take up residence in a computer and plucks out username, passwortd, creditcard number..without the user knowledge. Very concerning to me who uses the computer for trade, banking ect.

My worry is that I do not find MSE mentioned under the free anti-rootkit tools table mentioned here in this article.!

I know I am not with XP OS but got Win7 x64 OS and the latest MS's security updates are installed. Would that be adequate,I wonder?

Hi, snowshine,

Trojans already exist that do all of the above. There is no magic bullet that will find and fix everything. As soon as someone switches to another AV, there could be something the new AV doesn't catch that the other one might have.

"Microsoft urged those who are infected to ensure their machine is cleaned of the rootkit. It recommended using its malware removal tool or using rootkit detectors from other security companies."

There are rootkit tools that are made specifically for finding what some AV's might miss. Your Win7 x64 OS, with latest MS security updates installed, along with MSE sounds like a good combination. Add Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Win Patrol and you'll be in good shape. On the other hand, if you live dangerously by participating in P2P (file sharing), going to sites that are unsafe, opening email attachments when they are not expected, etc..sooner or later you will get hit and no security is going to save you. Be vigilant. Use a hardware and a software firewall and good security software, and you should be fine.:emotion-21:
