Updates 11/9/20 - CCleaner
CCleaner v5.74.8184 (09 Nov 2020)
This version comes jam-packed full of exciting improvements for all our users!
Cleaning
- This release contains an essential session cleaning compatibility update for Chromium browsers such as CCleaner Browser, Google Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Opera GX, Avast Secure Browser and Vivaldi.
Automatic Updates
- Updates to CCleaner will now be applied automatically in CCleaner Free.
- You can review your Update Preferences in the ‘Options’ → ‘Updates’ menu.
- If automatic updates are enabled, CCleaner will run in the background and check for them twice daily (if you run CCleaner it will always check for an update first).
Update Preferences
- We have simplified the ‘Options’ → ‘Updates’ menu down to two settings: one for controlling automatic updates and another for controlling update notifications.
CCleaner Professional
- If your license has expired, we will occasionally show you a reminder when you run CCleaner.
General
- We fixed a bug where text in warning message boxes was highlighted.

Remark: As of CCleaner 5.46 (August 2018), Smart Cleaning is enabled by default and runs as a background process. It can be controlled in the Options tab. If Smart Cleaning is disabled, the background process will close and will not run when you next start Windows.

CCleaner v5.74.8198 (11 Nov 2020)
Note, this version received a small patch update (v5.74.8198) to fix a settings bug. This patch update will be applied automatically unless automatic updates have been disabled.

So I updated to v5.74.8198...mistake!
It takes ~5-10 secs to open and it's using 16 MB of RAM. It crashed once yesterday, and has already crashed 3 times today.
I have both automatic update boxes UNchecked on its Options>Update menu, but my firewall keeps alerting that ccleaner is trying to access the internet - already 50+ times since I booted the PC ~2 hours ago. So now I've had the firewall completely block ccleaner's access in the internet.
Multiple ccleaner components were attempting to access the net including ccleaner.exe and ccleaner emergency updater.
A new ccleaner update task was added to the Win 10 Task Scheduler with this update and set as Active. So I've disabled it, which -hopefully- puts an end to its incessant attempts to access the internet, even if the firewall will now automatically block it without a popup asking me if I want to allow ccleaner to access the internet.
But that makes me wonder...What's the point of unchecking those two update boxes on the Options>Update screen if it's still going to access the internet anyway? Are those just "feel good" boxes letting ccleaner do whatever the heck it wants behind the scenes and out of view?
I'd never have known what it's doing if my firewall wasn't set to alert for attempts to access the internet by any app that doesn't have my full permission...
I'm losing all trust in ccleaner and maybe it's just time to get rid of it completely.
YOMV...

Ron,
I'm reporting the CCleaner updates as they're offered. For what it's worth, I'm still running v5.64 on my primary Win10 system... (and other, perhaps even older versions on my other systems). Many of the newer updates/features don't apply to the programs I run, so I don't bother routinely updating CCleaner anymore. (I'm getting nagging prompts to update, but I've not accepted... and so far, haven't received a "forced" update.)
Scndell,
It's not that I'M saying, but rather, I was simply copying/pasting the information supplied by the vendor. Nowadays, Chromium-based browsers, including Chrome itself, and Edge, are the most popular browsers. Indeed, Edge has become my primary browser in Win10 and Win8.1. I do NOT see it as a "virus". In fact, if you read the article to which you linked, it clearly states:
"Chromium virus is a term used to describe malicious browser application that is using the source code of a legitimate project Chromium presented by Google" ---- Chromium itself IS legitimate and safe... the application that hackers add to or modify the code is the virus.

I am sorry, you say 'This release contains an essential session cleaning compatibility update for Chromium browsers'
BUT
The Chromium virus is a malicious web browser that is created using the Chromiumcode. ...
It's kind of a common knowledge that Chromium is a piece of malware, is not it?

@ky331 - I had v5.63.0.7540 of ccleaner running but since I was doing some "housekeeping" on this PC, I decided to update this one too.
My comments were only intended to alert other users about my experience and potential issues with the v5.74.0.8198 update. Crashing is one thing, but phoning home constantly even though I told it not to, is just unacceptable behavior.
I still have the installer for ccleaner v5.63.0.7540, so if the new one continues to misbehave, I'll uninstall it and revert to the older version.

FWIW, ccleaner v5.74.0.8198 continues to attempt internet access, even though I disabled its update task in Task Scheduler and unchecked both boxes on its Options>Update menu.
At least now that I've set the firewall to deny ccleaner all internet access, instead of "ask", I don't see an incessant stream of ccleaner alerts from the firewall.
Anybody know what other setting(s) might be needed to stop ccleaner from even trying to access the internet?

I don't have any fixes for recent CCleaner misbehaviour, other than uninstalling and re-installing an older version.
Like ky, I stopped updating/upgrading CCleaner over one year ago, when it began taking liberties and got a bit too big for its britches.
That said, I still find it useful, particularly for controlling programs at Startup (better than WinPatrol Pro).
I allow no programs to automatically update or upgrade without my explicit permission.

There's a thread over on the ccleaner forum saying this new v5.74.0.8198 is crashing on multiple PCs. The error listing from the Windows Reliability Monitor which the OP posted is identical to the one I'm getting here.
So it ain't jus' me. Misery loves company...

Oh yeah! Thank you for this info (that Chromium is not a malware itself). Each one teach one... I have found a proof instantly, and now this threat also affects macs.
https://macsecurity.net/view/240-chromium-browser-virus
Moreover, it wants to be added to Acessibility List. This means a lot, this enables the virus to do ... all that you can do, so they can grab any data from your mac.
