Scare tactics?
The latest Win 10 update on my Inspiron laptop forced the installation of Edge Chromium yet again. I'm getting so tired of this whack-a-mole nonsense.
I used Revo Uninstaller to remove it, again... This time a popup box suddenly appeared during the uninstall saying "Windows Defender will no longer run at startup". Say what?
Completed the uninstall and rebooted the PC. It appears that WD got loaded and seems to be running, just like before uninstalling Edge Chromium.
So was that warning scare tactics to get me to abort the uninstall of Edge Chromium?
I hate Microsoft...

Not trying to justify their practice... just offering a thought: Microsoft will be removing IE from Win10 in June 2022, as it is viewed an ongoing security risk, whose use has been superseded by Edge Chromium.
From their perspective, they're offering you a free browser as part of the Win10 "service package". Of course, they can't force you to actually use it... but yes, like Chrome, it updates itself continually (in the background... I've never actually noticed it happening)... which can be psychologically annoying.
I agree with you, that MSFT should honor your decision... especially once you have removed it. If it's your desire, you certainly can continue a "tug-of-war", whereby MSFT installs it and you remove it, over and over again. The only thing I would caution is that you don't want to do something that "breaks" Windows, to the point that it malfunctions (or worst-case, can't boot-up anymore).

@ky331- I appreciate your comments, as always...
Edge Chromium was installed as part of the 2021-05 Cumulative Update for Win 10 20H2 on my laptop.
Free garbage (my opinion) is still garbage. It's my PC and I have the right to install or remove anything I want or don't want. They have no right to force it on me. They should provide an alert saying Edge Chromium will be installed as part of XYZ update, with a checkbox to decline the installation permanently.
Why should I be forced to waste space on my SSD for something I'll never, ever use? I might, perhaps, possibly reconsider if they offered the option to install it on my 1T hard drive rather than on my smaller SSD (C:).
And saying uninstalling Edge Chromium will break Windows Defender is totally unacceptable, even if that's true. Why should WD suddenly need Edge Chromium to able to launch at boot, when it never did in the past?
I posted this in case others want to uninstall Edge Chromium and get frightened off by the popup saying WD won't run at startup, which it still does on my lappy. But as always, YRMV...
And yes, I always image my boot drive before any major Windows updates, to be safe...

Interesting... if it was installed as part of a monthly Cumulative update, then I'd expect that to be the case for all future monthly cumulative updates

Yes, PC is still running 20H2, not 21H1, and 20H2 is supported until 5-2022.
That's exactly why they should give us the option to decline Edge Chromium, even if we have to decline it during every Cumulative Update. So many unnecessary read/writes/deletes on an SSD will shorten its life, on top of wasting its space.
