Preview update KB5043145 for Win11 has been taken down

"Last week, Microsoft released an optional Windows 11 update that brought some new features to the Start menu, taskbar, and lock screen. Unfortunately, that update is wreaking havoc for some users.

As reported by Windows Latest, after installing Windows update KB5043145, you may not be able to restart your PC as you'll be hit with the infamous Blue Screen of Death or the less common Green Screen of Death. In some cases, BitLocker recovery may also be triggered.

Microsoft has confirmed this as a known issue, stating that all users on Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2 can be affected. As of right now, Microsoft has taken down the update".

The lesson here is never install any Windows optional "preview" updates that Windows Update may offer.  Let somebody else take the risk and do the beta testing for Microsoft....

I've got it delayed for two weeks this time, instead of just a week, and hope that will be enough, but the regular monthly update seems to install anyway by itself if I ignore it for a few days...in less than a week.

On some systems, this update may cause a blue screen of death and also a green screen. Uninstalling updates > Run the CMD command prompt as administrator and type > wusa /uninstall /kb:5043145 , and after uninstalling the update, reboot the computer.

Microsoft has now seemingly provided a fix in the form of a Known Issue Rollback (KIR), a feature that lets Microsoft swiftly undo problematic changes caused by a Windows update without removing the whole update.

Even better, it’s automatically applied through Windows Update, resolving the issue being targeted without you having to intervene.
