Malware in image files...

Hackers are embedding malware in .png image files ("steganographic embedding") that antivirus and anti-malware software don't detect. Once a compromised file is opened, it goes through several processes before extracting information.

The malware opens a backdoor on the compromised PC. Hackers can run up to 10 commands, including downloading data to the machine through DropBox, uploading information into the hacker’s DropBox, deleting files on the device...

The examples discovered -so far- have targeted governments and high-profile companies, but can be used to target anyone.

Don't open image files attached to emails or to SMS from any unknown senders. Just delete the email or SMS.
