Google's website fonts track you

Google gives away special fonts for website owners to use. At last count, they’re installed on over 60 million websites!

When you visit a site that uses Google fonts, you automatically hand info over to Google:

  • IP address
  • The webpage you're visiting and how long you spend there
  • The links you click on the page

This info gets lumped together with all the other stuff Google collects about you everywhere else.

As of now, only Firefox allows you to set your own font choices, but you have to set it up correctly to block Google fonts. Search in Firefox Tools for Fonts.  When that opens, click the Advanced button and uncheck "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above".

CAVEAT: Some web pages might not look very good when you don't let them use their own (Google) fonts, but that could be a tip-off that Big Brother is watching you...
