Bogus Chrome error
I previously posted how hackers are using bogus Captcha to get users to install malware on their PC.
They've now doing the same thing using a bogus Chrome error message that reads like this:
(Chrome icon) Google Chrome
Something went wrong while displaying this webpage
There was an error during latest update of browser version...
Follow these instructions to resolve the issue:
Click "Copy-fix" button below
Right-click on Windows icon
Select Windows PowerShell (Admin)
Right-click within the open terminal window
Wait for the update to complete, then refresh the page
Similar attacks are circulating for Simpli, Facebook, etc.
Anything that tells you to click a Copy fix or Fix it button should be your first warning this is a hack attack. And anything that tells you to open Windows PowerShell, or to press Win+R and then Ctrl-V is certainly a hack attack.
Also, do not click the "Close" or "Retry" button in the error message. Just click the X in upper right corner of your browser's window to close it. This might then be a good time to clear the browser's cache and cookies too.
(Sorry, can't upload an image of the fake Chrome error message due to current forum issue blocking image uploads that's affecting all user accounts.)
