Audio Spasming

Hi,

When playing things like youtube videos and music files the audio of what is playing will "spasm". It's the best word I can think of to describe it,  for any video file the video freezes for about a second and the sound gets stuck and repeats the sound of that frame continuously. It happens about every thirty seconds.

Any help would be appreciated, or any ideas of where to point to for this type of issue.

Always include PC model and  version of Windows in your posts.

If this just started, you may be suffering the side-effects of a recent Dell SupportAssist update.

Try this work-around:

  1. Press Win+R
  2. Type in: msconfig
  3. Click OK
  4. Click Services tab in msconfig
  5. Uncheck the box for Dell Data Vault
  6. Click OK, exit msconfig and reboot
  7. If you get a notice about "Selective Startup" after rebooting, just cancel it.

Let us know If the problem goes away, so we can point you at a fix that allows you to re-enable and use Dell SupportAssist again.

I don't think its the internet connection, because that seems fine. Also the same issue occurs when playing files in itunes.

The first thing to determine is whether you have a fast-enough internet connection.   If the connection is slow, the video can "hiccough" while your computer buffers the data being transmitted to it.

If you're certain you have a fast connection, I'm not sure what your next option would be.

You may want to read this thread which gives some additional information about Dell Data Vault and some of the problems it is causing.

Except the link in the thread posted above only tells you what Data Vault is and how to remove it.

I wouldn't remove it even if it is the cause for your problem. Try the work-around I suggested and if that fixes it, we can point you directly at a new link which explains how to repair Data Vault so you can keep using it.

If the work-around doesn't solve the problem, we'll need to look at other possible causes for this issue. So until we can isolate a cause, make as few changes to the system as possible. Otherwise, we'll just complicate things even more...

Glad that solved the problem. :emotion-15:

Now, if you still want to use SupportAssist, go here and look for the post by Dell-Joe B on Feb 26. Read his instructions and follow the link...

After running the hotfix, go back into msconfig and re-check the box for Dell Data Vault on the Services tab and reboot.

If the problem recurs, Dell-Joe B provided a way to contact his team directly to handle any ongoing problems with SupportAssist. Be sure to include all the details he indicated in that post.
