AntiVirus software advice please
Hello,
Presently I use Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0.0.454.
My subscription will expire soon and I wanted advise and suggestions as to keeping this software or change to another. Pros and cons would be most helpful.

Darrell:
The most consistently recommended paid AVs in the security forums I frequent include:
- Avira's AntiVir Premium Edition
- ESET's NOD32
- Kaspersky AV
I believe all 3 offer 30 day trials, and can recommend any of them.
I have tried the first 2, and for various reasons chose NOD32. It was named AV Product of the Year by AV-comparatives (a respected independent test site) in both 2006 and 2007. It also has achieved more Virus Bulletin VB100 certifications than any other product.

Hi Darrell:
Kaspersky makes an excellent AV, but I'm not so sure about the rest of the components in its suite. I have to tell you I am not a big fan of "All-in-one" security suites for reasons listed here.

Hello joe,
Thanks for answering, I thought that the lights were on here, but no one is home.
I just want a few ideas about this if others can reply.

I personally use Eset Smart Security, but Kaspersky IS 2009 is very highly praised everywhere I've read about it.
If you just want an AV solution - rather than an all-in-one... those two vendors would still be my recommendations (Eset NOD32 / Kaspersky AV 2009) :emotion-5:

Have you tried Avast? I have tried others but always seem to end up back with Avast Home free. You register for a year but is free. Has boot scan that is really good. Check at AV-comparatives.org under comparatives for how well AVs stack up.

I've used AVG (free) for years. I keep coming back to it because it is not intrusive, simple to use and update, hasn't conflicted with any other software, and has kept me virus-free. It doesn't rate as high in virus detection as others, but seems to be good enough. AVIRA (free) is also okay and ranks very high in virus detection, but I get annoyed by the pop-up ads.
If you go with AVG, be prepared to go through quite a hunt to get to the free version--but I think it's worth it. If you're using XP, a good free firewall is COMODO. (Vista's firewall is adequate.)

Yes I agree with Joe.
We speak now and again, and I do respect his views. I'm looking for a variety of inputs on this subject. You know, to get a feel of how the winds blow concerning AV software.
BTW, Did you have some input of your own on this question?

LOL :emotion-15:
Too old, old dog new tricks kinda thing. maybe in a few years I will retire and install linux on a second system.
But, back to my request. I want/need the best AV product (or at least one of the top few) for my systems. All three systems are recent and have no problems running Kaspersky. But the question remains is there a better program or should I just keep this?
Where are all the AV experts in this forum? I was led to believe there were many that really knew their stuff. Is this area closed on the weekends? :emotion-56:
