After update to Cryptoprevent v7.0 the sidebar disappeared
Hi
I just updated to v7.0 of the CryptoPrevent.
Following a restart my side bar with gadgets is not available to get it back.
CryptoPrevent has the following : "The Windows Sidebar and Desktop Gadgets are a major security valunerability and Microsoft recommends them disabling them. Would you like to keep them disabled(recommended) Yes No
I choose "No"
Following which CryptoPrevent request for a restart and go through with it... but the sidebar fail to appear.
I have chosen the DEFAULT Option: Recommended for most people.
Done it few time with no luck.
Does anybody else have the same situation after the update and is there any remedy?
Regards
Win 7 x64 is my OS

Snow,
I don't have/use Sidebar/Gadgets, so I can't say anything definitive about it.
Just one suggestion... since I'm not sure what the DEFAULT options will pre-check, let's be absolutely sure by going through the ADVANCED interface:
Open CryptoPrevent, click on OK. Click the ADVANCED tab, selecting SHOW ADVANCED OPTIONS. In the left-hand column, mid-way down under Misc. Protections, UNcheck the box for DISABLE WINDOWS SIDEBAR & GADGETS. Then toward the lower-right, hit the APPLY PROTECTION button. Reboot, and see what happens.
No guarantee it will make a difference, but it's worth a try.

Do you believe CryptoPrevent's statement : " The Windows Sidebar and Desktop Gadgets are a major security vulnerability and Microsoft recommends disabling them"?
Yes, Microsoft has gone on record as recommending disabling all Gadgets; in fact, installing I.E. 11 will automatically delete your gadgets! See discussion here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/virus-spyware/f/3522/t/19592323.aspx
I think Joe also laments the loss of his clock gadget... but I also believe he may have found a viable replacement for it. Joe --- are you out there???

Indeed, the desktop analog clock from gadgets was missed. The tray clock is too tiny, and lacks a second-hand sweep.
But I found a better free analog clock replacement, ClocX, which I reviewed here:
