v7.2.1 to v8.0.1 Appliance Upgrade

Hi,

Has anyone successfully upgraded a v7.2.1 FVEE appliance to v8.0.1?  The documentation is really lacking on exact steps to complete the upgrade?  I have attempted it and it upgraded it, but nothing was working.  The documentation refers to some older document about how to upgrade the agent manager, but I could not figure anything out.

I want to get it upgraded as I see a lot of nice stuff in the new version, bu just needs some hints and tips on finishing the upgrade process.

Hi SDonaghey

Are you following this document ?

http://edocs.quest.com/vfoglight/800/files/FoglightForVirtualization_8.0.1_VirtualAppliance_Install_Revision1.pdf

That should have a step by step procedure.

If you need further assistance I suggest you contact our Support team at https://support.software.dell.com/

Regards

Gaston.

Yes, that is the guide I followed, but step 17 was useless to me.  Where is this guide?

Running the 8.0.1 Linux installer is now giving me an error

Invocation of this Java Application has caused an InvocationTargetException.  this application will not exit. (LAX)

Stack Trace:

java.awt.HeadlessException

No X11 DISPLAY variable was set, but this program performed an operation which required it.

I forgot to deactivate the agents first before running the upgrade.  Doing that now and rerunning it.

I will follow up with the team in charge of documenting the vApp upgrade guide.

My recommendation is to open a support case to have someone assist you better,

Try running the installer with the following option:

-i console

That will start a console upgrade.

Please contact Support if you run into any issues.

I am at the Upgrade Agent Manager step and I am supposed to browse to where the CAR file is located.  Am I supposed to download something first?  Seems to be some steps missing and it is just assuming things.

Hi, please apply workaround #2 from the following KB

https://support.software.dell.com/fr-ca/kb/153148

You could confirm contacting Support, but most likely FVE is collecting historical alarms from your vCenter and FglAM is going Out of Memory.

Please contact Support if issues persist.

The problem I am seeing now after the upgrade, is the Agent Manager disappears from the dashboard.  After a reboot, it is there and the server is running fine, then after a few minutes it just disappears and the Agent are deactivated.

Its almost like the Agent Manager is corrupted.
