Process Monitoring

I had process monitoring added for one VM to test it's functionality. I since removed the agent but I can no longer add Process Monitoring to that VM as I do not have the option to.

Is it possible to bulk add process monitoring to all VM's?

Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Process monitoring is not built for monitoring processes on all the virtual machines, the idea is to turn it on when you have a machine where you have resource usage and you want to understand what process is consuming resources.

I suspect you used the guest process investigator agent, if you have not upgraded you environment this should technically work, if it doesn't please open with support asap to see why it is not working.

I was asking about a version as we are transition from the guest process investigator to our infrastructure agent.

You can set an infrastructure agent for the machine http://edocs.quest.com/foglight/5752/doc/Cartridge/InfrastructureCartridge/UsingTheCartridge.25.php and specify that the machine is a virtual machine (it is a checkbox in the setup). That will enable you to monitor processes on hosts.

Hope this helps.

Hello C1,

I assume you set up Process Monitoring by clicking on the link Add --> Process Monitoring?

If so then that link is available one time only meaning once you setup monitoring the link will go away. However that does not mean you can not recreate the agent if you delete it. You will need to set it up manually. In case you are not familiar with manual process then you can open a Support case as Golan mentioned below.

You can add the processes monitor to the ESXi host and not on each VM
