Obtaining accurate pricing of components used to calculate savings

At the System Settings - Savings page one may configure prices for:
     ~ CPU per GHz
     ~ Memory per GB
     ~ Storage per GB

and which are used to calculate the savings to be made by taking certain actions which vOPS identifies.

Does anyone know of either

* any current de facto (industry standard) source of figures for these prices?

OR

* a recognised method for calculating the price of each component for use here?

There really isn't any "de facto" standard since all hardware is different.

Generally, what you want to do to calculate this is use a weighted average across your environment's hardware costs per-host and per-storage.

Storage would be the cost of the total storage system divided by the number of GB in it.

CPU and RAM cost would be the cost a host, divided by the amount of CPU and RAM in that host, respectively.

I realise hardware costs vary enormously due to the massive combination of factors involved.

Initial cost of a SAN divided the GB storage it provides only give the vaguest of figures for a $ per GB costing.  Addition of more disc, cooling, power, labour, depreciation, etc, increase validity to any calculation, but make the calculation more complex.

Similarly, simpy dividing the cost of a host by numbers representing CPU and RAM components do not represent costings accurately.

What I am seeking are either some figures which have been published as 'pretty good' component prices - perhaps as a result of some research in the media or by a vendor or in academia - or a pretty good way to extrapolate cash figures for components, to then use in vOPS.

WIthout pretty good values for CPU, RAM and disc, the savings value which vOPS calculate and presents, based on the numbers one configures, are hard to justify to the people who are looking for savings; GIGO.

I know of no publications for "pretty good" prices, sadly.  I'll be sure to share any that I come across, however.
