Custom Report for one SQL Server instance

Hi,

I have been starting to play with creating cusom reports, and need a little help getting started on what I want to do.  What I would like to do is create a custom report that has an input parameter for time period and for the specific instance.  In the report would be several metric charts for the time period, as well as a listing of alarms that were fired during the time period.  Most of the examples out there are for multiple hosts or instances, and I can't figure out how to get the alarms in there for just the instance choosen in the input paramaters.

Any tips on how to get started?
