Windows Cluster shared vRAW device LUNS using ViPR Controller 2.2 - vSphere 5.5 - Windows 2012 Clustering?

Hi there,

Can someone explan to me how I must provision Windows Cluster 2012 Shared vRAW device LUNS using ViPR Controller with VMWARE vSphere 5.5? Our current setup:

- 2 fabric FC SAN

- 4 ESXi Cluster hosts

- 2 Windows 2012 Standard Cluster Nodes

- IP network

I have tried to:

- Create Volume for VMWare (on shared storage), this did not do the trick, we could only add the created LUN to 1 Cluster host

- Create and Mount Volume for Windows Host using shared storage

The problem I encounter is the fact that the VM/Windows Cluster node, does not have initiators attached to it, so i'll probably have to add the IP Network and add the Windows hosts to ViPR. But i am curious if there is a manual somewhere out there which i can use?

Any help is welcome.

Regards,Erik

Hi Erik,

I guess you are talking about provisioning Raw Device Mappings (RDM) to your Windows 2012 VMs, correct?

If that's the case, the only solution with ViPR Controller would be using "Create Volume for VMware" from the service catalog. This will create the volume in the storage array, map/mask it to the ESX hosts and perform any zoning. It will require some manual configuration though to map the ViPR provisioned device to your VMs.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards

Vco plugin has workflow to create rdms. It uses vsphere Apis to accomplish last step.
