ViPR SRM free downlaod and test drive

We wanted to test drive the ViPR Controller and the ViPR SRM. We downloaded the software which includes the SRM OVA. We installed the OVA but when we log into the machine to check the status, the method scripts are not there. It also looks like the APG account hasn't been set up. Can we test drive the SRM from the free download or is there other things required?

Have you installed SRM per the instructions in the download?

From the ViPR Controller free download instructions:

Procedure

1. Open vSphere Client and connect to the vCenter Server that manages your VMware environment.

2. From the File menu, select Deploy OVF Template.

3. In the Source step, browse to the location of the ViPR_SRM_3.7.1_1VM_vApp.ova” file.

Good morning,

Thanks for looking at this. We did the instructions in the manual. We’ve tried several things and came up with an error message:

Not sure what we missed but that’s where we are now.

Dwane

Dwane,

Can you share the link from where you downloaded the software and which manual you referred to deploy the same ?  Just to make sure any pre-requisite for deployment is not missing.  If you can share that may be we can provide some recommendations or we can assist to deploy this.  You can always open a service request to get guidance on this.  If you end up opening an SR, let me know the SR#.  You can email me at brijesh.gawande@emc.com

Hi again,

Thanks for hanging in there. We did the downloads from several different sites, hopefully we got all of them.

We started with the ViPR Community.

https://community.emc.com/community/products/vipr

We scrolled down to the

DOWNLOAD, INSTALL & CONFIGURE

Start your ViPR Controller and ECS experiences with our fully-functional no-charge software downloads

with no time limitations that include ViPR Controller, ViPR SolutionPack and ECS software.

This had the SRM OVA file. We used that initially.

When we had errors we went to support site and downloaded just the SRM zip from there.

https://support.emc.com/downloads/34247_ViPR-SRM

This had the SRM OVF file. We tried that next.

We got documentation from both sites for the installation. Here is the manual we used:

https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-49148

http://www.emc.com/collateral/TechnicalDocument/docu65562.pdf

We weren’t sure we could open a service request since this is freeware. Do we need to register something or provide any other information to do that?

Thanks,

Dwane

Dwane,

You were at the correct link.  The software download and documentation also looks to be correct.  Typically our field/ Professional services team deploy softwares at customer site by scaling them appropriately as per customer requirement.  However since you are just trying it, you can deploy it and it comes with a 30 day license.  Also, you may need to choose between a single host or multi host infrastructure depending on what you will discover.  If you have access to the downloads page, you don't need to do anything different.  If you have the software, make sure you verify the MDS5 on the downloaded software package using any md5 checker software.  If you believe you have met all the pre-requisites, feel free to open an SR and let me know the SR#.  We can assist you to get this deployed and you can test the software for a month with the trial license.  You can always engage your site account manager in case you want EMC to do the scaling/deployment through a paid engagement which also means you purchase the license etc.  We would be happy to assist if you are stuck with the deployment too.

Thanks for the heads up Dwane.  I see you are in the EST time zone.  A TSE from our group local to your timezone will get in touch with you.
