ViPR SRM 3.7.1 - VMware and VNX SP additional metrics available?

Hello all,

Would appreciate your help to prove the value of SRM at a customer relying on the software to better understand a performance issue with a group of VMs. Additional metrics have been suggested to be monitored in VMware and VNX SPs, and possibly provide important related information (see below). I have searched "SolutionPack Metrics and Reports Matrix" but didn't find any reference. Not being a technical person, maybe I'm missing or misinterpreting something.

Can SRM gather and report the following metrics?

From VMware SP:

  1. WQLEN
  2. DSNRO / DQLEN
  3. AQLEN

From VNX SP:

  1. SQLEN on storage ports

Thank you,

Nuno

Hi Nuno,

It sounds like SQLEN is storage processor queue length. We already provide this metric in 3.7.1 (See above). Is this what you want?

Thanks.

Can you please give more information for this one?

SQLEN on storage ports

Is this a property or metric?

Thanks.

Hello Sarah,

From what I was able to gather, SQLEN relates to Storage Controller Queue Depth.

If by property we understand the default value set for the VNX SP port, and by metric we understand the actual value which is being registered at a given time on the VNX SP port, what we are looking for here should be the metric.

Below also some more information on the other metrics:

Troubleshooting Storage Performance _Page_05.jpg

Description
From VMware SP
WQLENQueue depth per VM, from ESX perspective. Dependent on the type of the virtual HBA.
DSNROQueue depth per DataStore, from ESX perspective. Applicable only if more than one VMs are issuing requests in a datastore and if Storage I/O Control is disabled.
DQLENESX HBA driver per target queue depth. Applicable only if one VM is issuing requests in a datastore and the DSNRO queue is greater than HBA driver LUN queue, or if Storage I/O Control is enabled.
AQLENESX HBA driver per adapter queue depth. Based on the HBA manufacturer model and make.
From VNX SP
SQLEN on storage portsStorage Controller Queue Depth.

Thank you,

Nuno
