ViPR Controller 3.5 Error 12000
I am able to create a Volume for VMware first time. Second attempt, I receive the following error:
Error 12000: An error occurred while executing the job. Operation failed due to the following error: encountered a smis errorwhen attempting to query existing exports: Error when attempting to query LUN masking information: illegal character in path at index 3: .
Checked the controllersvc.log. No help.
Checked on EMC support. No help.
Has anyone run across this in the ViPR community? And if so, what is the root cause and solution?
Thank you.

Is it possible to get a screen shot of the error?
I've wonder if the GUI is translating the path incorrectly...such as treating 2 characters as an escape sequence.
For example...if the path was something like c:\newdir...the \n might get translated as a newline character.
I believe a workaround to this would be to use viprcli.
You may be able to create the volume through the gui, then CLI to present it to the host...

Which version of VIPR are you using ? which SMI-S version ?
is that a test environment ?
I had a very similar error in 3.5 but volume was on VPLEX sor I got Error 18000 and it was new to me. I found out that I had to rename an ExportMask to make it work, which is not trivial...
