ViPR CAS Benefits

ViPR Object has added compliance capabilities and support for CAS (Content Addressable Storage) as a supported object API. ViPR CAS allows applications written to the Centera CAS API to run on ViPR managed arrays. ViPR brings new features to CAS applications such as:

1. • Massive Scalability. ViPR storage scales seamlessly. Virtual storage pools span multiple platforms and the underlying storage does not have to be dedicated to CAS.
   • More efficient storage. ViPR CAS eliminates object count limitations. In addition, ViPR is optimized for capacity and performance. Previously with Centera, customers had to choose a data protection scheme that forced a tradeoff between performance (Content Protection Mirrored or capacity (Content Protection Parity).
   • Geo-Distribution and protection. CAS applications can now take advantage of ViPR's geo-distribution and protection capabilities.
   • Future platform flexibility. In the future, ViPR CAS will enable a customer to have ViPR manage their Centera arrays, transform their Centera data under ViPR and eventually migrate data from Centera to other ViPR-managed file arrays while maintaining CAS integration - no application changes required or complex and costly application-based migrations.
