ViPR and SRM

Is it mandatory to have ViPR SRM licenses to do the monitoring and reporting of the physical infrastructure?

July 14th, 2014 11:00

Hi,

ViPR M&R is for reporting on only the ViPR resources and ViPR SRM reports on both physical, virtual and software-defined.

ViPR SRM will add reports to the ViPR SolutionPack such as the host reports with disks and initiators, the Physical LUN Details reports, Physical FileSystem Details reports and the Storage Pool Details in the Storage Pools detailed reports.   When ViPR SRM isn’t in the environment, these reports are not available.   This integration makes it easier to associate the virtual and physical  resource since you don’t need to navigate from the ViPR SolutionPack to the main enterprise reports of ViPR SRM.

ViPR SRM tracks capacity consumption across the storage environment including the arrays that present capacity to ViPR to improve capacity planning and purchasing processes. It also monitors and reports on performance trends in ViPR environments to identify when service levels are not being met and provides end-to-end views of the storage infrastructure to simplify troubleshooting processes. Finally, it analyzes changes and monitors compliance with design best practices and the EMC Support Matrix to ensure your environment is always configured right to meet service levels.

Please review the EMC ViPR Monitoring and Reporting Solution Pack for further information on the reports available.

Thanks,

Dee
