ViPR 2.3 greenfield setup with VPLEX, VNX, ESXi Boot from SAN
Hello,
Must say I see a lot of great responses to other ViPR Discussion/Posts! Great Work!
Working thru the planning/design of upcoming ViPR->VPLEX Local->VNX Greenfield implementation.
Part I am trying to understand is the ViPR Installation theory in a Greenfield setup.. Examples of my high-level concept:
- Configure VNX FAST Pools and create Boot LUN and Datastore LUNs (still high level here)
- Perform MDS zoning for back-end VPLEX <-->VNX and front-end VPLEX <--> ESXi server on UCS.
- Create VPLEX Virtual Volumes off the VNX LUNs and export to UCS ( ESXi Server) (Still high level here)
- V-Center and ESXi server gets built-> Datastore added
- ViPR vApp deployed (3 + 2 )
So now that the ViPR instance is up and running
- Discover the new VNX, VPLEX, MDS Networks, and Vcenter..
- Configure ViPR VDC, virtual array, virtual pools ,
Should I then be able to ingest the previous exported VPLEX virtual volumes into ViPR's DB?
And from here be able to leverage ViPR to create new VPLEX virtual volumes and export out to ESXi hosts?
Anything major missing in this high-level process?
Thanks for any feedback!

I believe an SMI-S deployment is required in order to discover the VNX in ViPR.

Hi Gator,
Starting with ViPR 2.4 (which is due early next week), you will be able to ingest all the VPLEX-VNX volumes exported to the ESX cluster without issues.
