Unable to associate storage pools to a virtual pool from ViPR Ui?

EditingVirtualPools - unable to choose any pool even though virtual array has pools.PNG.pngVirtualArray(2 VNX 2 storage pools from each array and 1 VP).PNG.png

HI,

I have created a Virtual array and associated it with 2 VNX arrays (via smi-s), 2 storage pools (one from each vnx array) and associated a virtual pool (for details please see the above image).

Now I tried to edit the virtual pool to add storage pool so that I can provisioning volumes to test block services. However its not enumerating any storage pools (either manual or automatic). Its not timing/refresh issue as well as I have given it significant amount of time.

Can anyone tell what am I missing? basically my end goal is to provision volumes against the virtual pools.

I will try with ViPR CLI to see if I have better luck with that - meanwhile any thoughts on what am I missing from GUI is appreciated.

(please see above image for editing virtual pool )

Regards.

Hi Nag,

Make sure that the hardware filters are not hiding your VNX storage pools. By default, "thin" provisioning is selected, and your pools might not be available to be used as thin. Try with thick.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Javier,

Both the storage pools i have added to Virtual Array supports both thick and thin provisioning. And i have created thin luns (using external tools like unisphere, esi - i have used ESI) from these storage pools and my VMs are using these luns.

And yes, i have tried with thick as well before. For some reason the pools are not showing up. i have tried now, just to make sure and its not enumerating pools.

More things you can take a look at:

- Make sure your VNX ports are online and that they show up in the list of storage ports available for the virtual array

- Make sure the protocol you select is supported by that VNX

- I see you have no networks under your virtual array. I suppose you added the storage system directly and didn't add any networks. If none of the above work, you can try removing the storage system and adding the networks instead.

Let us know how it goes.

k, will give it a try later in the day. I will also try with ViPR CLI to see if i can figure out what i am missing. i will update details later.

And yes, your conjecture is correct - i didn't add networks. I added provider, and let the storage systems to discover. not adding networks is probably the issue.
