Some questions about ViPR SRM

Hello,

Customer asked some questions about ViPR SRM:

  1. Does ViPR SRM have a topology view or a list of FC switches? so I can see the relationship of a fabric. Once a single switch is faulted, I can see how many switches are affected in this fabric.
  2. Can I have two or more graphs in a single report view? Customer wants to compare a report of different durations in a single view or report. ie. Compare the VNX SP utilization% between April and January, or between April 2017 and April 2016.

Thanks a lot!

Hey rocafcatc

Do you have 1 host that sees all the switches?

probably the easiest way to see the see the switches through topology is to show the end to end topology between that host and the storage array. That way you will see all switches.

there is a pretty good video on youtube that discusses this.

EMC's ViPR SRM Demo - YouTube

also, take a look at the following docs

SRM 4.0.2 User Guide for Storage Administrators

EMC ViPR SRM 4.0.2 Web Portal Guide

as far as your monitoring switch faults, there are appropriate  alerts that will monitor for that.

Thanks

Hello rocafcatc,

I'm new to communities in general... please forgive my inexperience.

I definitely recommend looking at 4.x if your customer is in 3.x still.  The topology engine behaves much better.  Unfortunately I'm not seeing a prebuilt topology map for fabrics.  That would be a great feature to have.  But if you navigate to "Explore" >> "Storage Connectivity" >> "Fabrics".  You some of the building blocks there. Such as showing the switches in a fabric.

But that doesn't mean one can't be built.   There is the topology report and you could probably work with.

As for your 2nd question.  The high level answer is yes, absolutely.  But no default report will accomplish this.  You/Your customer would need to build the reports and set the time selection manually.  There are many ways to accomplish this but a quick and dirty way would be to copy the reports and static set the time selection.   If it is a default report, you can go to edit mode and copy the default report to a new report under the "My Reports" section.  ***Never modify a default report directly***.  More details here; ViPR SRM: How to customize stock reports?
Once you have a copy, you can go into edit mode and adjust the time selection.  Then make another copy of the report for the comparison time selection, editing the time selection again.  The two reports can then either be pinned to the same custom view.  Or if you are a bit more experienced, move them under a custom mixed report.

This is the best I know how to answer your question.  I'll try to keep monitoring if there are follow up questions or if I find something more helpful.

Take Care.
