How to setup email for reports and alerts in ViPR SRM
If you have not configured ViPR SRM to email Alerts, you may be confused the first time you want to generate a report that is emailed. If it works, the FROM Address is defaulted to: noreply@mybusiness.com These instructions will help you to make sure that you have the correct setup defined in ViPR SRM.
Confirm email settings for ViPR SRM
-
-
Logon to SRM with a user account that has “global administrator” level access.
-
Click on Administration
-
Click on Alerting
-
Click on Global Settings
-
Confirm that the SMTP information is correct
-
o From address – This is the address that will be used by SRM when emailing reports. Note that some email system may require this address to be a user that is in the Global Address List (GAL). This address will be used for all email reports (no matter which user requested them). You may need to establish an email service account if you need to use a validated address. For example ViPR-SRM-Reports-Alerting@ .com.
o SMTP Host – the fully qualified hostname of the email system server. [1]
o SMTP Port – Default is 25. [2]
o SMTP Authentication Mode – Default is “no authentication”. Options include basic, SSL/TLS, or STARTTLS. Modes other than “no authentication” will require an SMTP Username and SMTP Password. Consult your email administrator for details.
Run Selected report and confirm email function operates as expected
- Return to User Interface mode
- Click on User Settings and confirm your email address has been entered for your user account. Update as required.
- Navigate to a report.
- Click on TOOLS and then E-mail me this Report
o You will receive a “report sent” information status popup
o You should get an email with a PDF version of the report in your email inbox.
o If this does not work, you will have to troubleshoot the email configuration. Contact your email administrators and system administrators.
- When you schedule a report to run on a regular basis you can select one or more output formats that can be emailed to one or more recipients.
[1] Enterprise mail systems such as Microsoft Exchange/Outlook and Lotus Notes may have security settings that prevent SPAM emails. For example an email that appears to be a “relayed” message may be dropped. Questions regarding proper SMTP settings should always be referred to your company’s email administrators.
[2] Make sure that whatever port is used for SMTP, the appropriate firewall rules are in place.

Thank you for sharing. I heard it was an option to enable the front end to act a local SMTP server. If so, is there a place to get more details around this?
