How to apply Global Search to EMC SRM Search Bar
Hi Everyone - With SRM 3.6.3, i was able to perform a Global Search on all the Server/Switch/Storage Components discovered in SRM. But seems like with SRM 3.7 the default search is set to "device" and i'm wondering if there is a way to set it for Global Search by default because lot of users do not have Technical Expertise to set the Expansion Property.

You can't enable a global search via that box anymore. We've removed the search index process from the FrontEnd because it could bog down reporting performance in large environments. Most customers we talked to use the Search box to quickly find an asset that's having an issue -- e.g. Someone just opened a ticket for slow performance on host123 and I want to see it's end-to-end path -- so we optimized the search function for those use cases.

Hi Mahesh,
We are adding the ability to search Datastores with the SRM release coming out in the summer of 2016 and I'll consider making Storage Groups searchable. But in the interest of keeping search nimble, I would hesist to scan through components like Volumes. You can always use the advanced search capability to look up components.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply Norton - we have multiple Use Cases where we wanted to search against Datastore names, Netapp Volume Names, VMAX Storage Group names etc. Is it possible to search them now - I see there is a Expansion Property that we can play with but it seems complex and not everyone can use it.
Is there no backend way we can set the Search Box to Global Search?

Thanks Gayatri - where do I perform Advanced search? Is there an article or a quick documentation on how to use that feature.

Hi Aaron - that is like creating a Custom Report for each object that needs to be searched and there are many objects I would like to search on. So may not be really useful in that perspective.
