Chargeback based on Lun / Export name

Has anyone had any luck setting up chargeback rules based on the LUN or NFS Export name?  We have many shared arrays and each LUN presented has a business unit's name in it for easy identification. I am trying to set up chargeback rules that assign a business unit based on these names so I know how much each business unit owes for storage.  So far, I have been able to get the Business Unit to show up correctly in capacity reports but Chargeback reports are just empty.

Thanks

Hello Colinschuster,

Although I have not setup such a report, here are some thoughts on setting up a report that could give you the charge back to each business unit.

I am taking the example of physical hosts / hypervisors.

Report Structure

a) Modify the OOB chargeback report for hosts or hypervisors to add colums for %Business Unit 1, %Business Unit 2,  etc ( depending on no of business units you have) .

b) Similarly add columns for ChargeBack BU1, ChargeBack BU2

c) Chargeback BU1 = Chargeable Cost * % BU1

Getting the Data for %BU1, %BU2

a) Build a complex expansion to the Hosts, Linked to the LUNs and Populate the Business Units

b) Get Childcount for all Business Units for each host

c) Get Count for each BU (BU1, BU2 etc)

d) Calculate the % of each BU, nop the value up to the top most node.

That should give you an idea of how much each BU owes for Storage.

Hope the above makes sense.

Please let me know what you think.

Vaishak.
