Unity 300H stuck in Service Mode after reimage – svc_diag password rejected

Hello,

I am seeking advice regarding a Unity system issue.

I am currently using a Unity 300H as a test device. After performing a reimage, the system continuously boots into Service Mode.

To investigate, I connected to the service port using ipmitool and attempted to check the system status by running svc_diag. However, it prompts me for a password again.

The issue is that the password requested at this stage does not match the password used to access the service port. When I enter the same password, it is rejected.

Additionally, this device is not under an active maintenance contract, so it is difficult for me to receive official support from Dell.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or can provide guidance, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Hi.

Thank you for your question.

After a reimage, the appliance OS credential store is reset/rebuilt. The password you used for the service port is not guaranteed to be accepted by svc_diag. Internal checks detect, Missing or mismatched system packages. Incomplete post‑image initialization. Corrupt platform metadata. The array cannot complete svc_init. During reimage: The svc password can be randomized or expects a Dell-internal default that is not documented publicly , or is tied to Secure Remote Services metadata.

There is no supported method to reset or recover svc credentials locally. Without an active support contract, there is no supported or reliable way to exit Service Mode once svc credentials are inaccessible.

Let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Thanks,

Josh

This is because your two controllers inter-connection was not setup. When you got ask you input password, just press enter again and again.  The root cause is your first 4 disks system file was broken. You can reimage your storage by USB or by root inject to get the BIN file and run the BIN file directly to reinitialize it.
