Unity 300 SMB share and IBMi Series

Hi folks,

Am wondering if anyone out there has experience with Unity and IBM iSeries? I have a customer who is running an iSeries on V7R3 (internal disk) and are trying to connect to a Unity file share via QNTC. The file share is mapped but none of the directory structure is displayed. Per IBM's instructions, the user connecting to the share is the same and has the same password. Wireshark traces to the share from the iSeries show the Unity sending a [FIN, ACK] after credentials are sent. Customer has this working with Synology and other Windows servers with no problems. Any ideas?

Hi Sam,

After putting in a ticket with Dell, it was related to KB 000033501 - Dell EMC UNITY, VNX: AS400 SMB Client Access Denied to Unity/VNX CIFS Share (Dell EMC Correctable)

Our previous AS400/iSeries (that is working) is on OS v7r1 and must be running local authentication on the NAS. This new build AS400 that was having the problem is OS v7r3 and defaults to SMB2. One of Dell's engineers updated the parameters on our NAS and the shares started working to our AS400 again.

I'd love to know if you identified the cause of this issue and more importantly if there was a solution.  I have a multifunction device (Photocopier) that is scanning to a Unity 300 SMB share and if SMB2/3 is enabled the server send a FIN,ACK immediately after receiving the session setup request. Works fine if only using SMB1.  As well this copier works with other windows file servers no problem with SMB2/3 enabled.

Thanks.

upgrade to the latest Unity OE - there were some fixes in the smb2/3 area lately

also upgrade your photocopier firmware

if the problem still persists take a network trace and get it analyzed through a service request

without seeing what happens on the network its just guessing

Did you find anything with this?  I am having the same problem with a recently updated iSeries V7R3. I can connect the iSeries to Windows server shares but not the Unity.  On a trace, the error is: STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER 0XC000000D.
