Will Skype Work on a Dell Venue 8 Android or Won't It?

I recently (5/23/14) purchased a Dell Venue 8 Android Tablet.  As of yet I have been unable to get Skype to work on the tablet.  Is it reasonable to expect Skype will ever work on this tablet?  (Android 4.3, Skype 4.9.0.45564) And why must it be so difficult to get reliable information from either Dell support or Skype support?

I also recently purchased the Dell Venue 8 Android Tablet.

I also have Android 4.3 and the same Skype version.

When you plug the headphones in, Skype does seem to work. Without the headphones plugged in, Skype does not work.

I called Dell technical support and support said the problem should be fixed with the next version of Android- 4.4 (Kit-Kat).

Also, see the June 2 post regarding Skype audio. Another Dell Community member also said it works with Android 4.4.

Sincerely,

Response time = less than 30 min., which is less than the wait time by telephone with Dell.  Accuracy = on the money, in stark contrast to your professional 'competition' in India.  (The headphones worked!)  Result = you have provided me with some confidence that I will be able to enjoy my grand children on my Venue 8 while traveling to my other grand children.  Thanks!

Unfortunately I had no luck searching for the June 2 post you mentioned.

I have now been able to attempt a 'real' Skype call.  I had assumed that since the test echo/sound connection didn't seem to work that a real Skype session wouldn't work either.  Now it seems the only issue is that the test connection will not produce sound out of the tablet's speakers.  Using headphones works just fine with the test connection.  And the 'real' Skype call has no issues at all. The video is fine and the audio plays through either the speaker or the headphones.  Whew!

DPETERS8120,

Thanks for your information. Yes, you are right- "real" Skype works- the only issue is the test connection that will not produce sound with the tablet's speakers.
