Where can I buy the "Dell MicroUSB Dongle For Data and Charging"

The Dell Venue 8 Pro support manuals page has two different manuals for a "Dell Micro-USB Dongle" that plugs into the micro-usb port and exposes a charging port and a larger usb port for plugging in other devices at the same time

I cannot seem to find this available for sale anywhere and it seems very useful.

Anyone know where I can buy this? Do I need a DELL part number and have to order it over the phone to the parts phone number?

The PDF manuals for the Dongle are linked on this page:

The specific guides are here:

Yes, the Dell Abes "Charging and Data Adapter" is standard OTG coupled with a "power to device" circuit so that the OTG can be plugged into your standard Dell charger, etc, and charge the device while OTG is hosting.  It also works stand alone, as a OTG dongle, when not being plugged into AC adapter to charge//keep tablet charged.

It's nice to use with an external battery pack as well, keeping the tablet charged while you use the OTG.  It also adds a USB port to the larger Venue series tablet, and can be coupled with other adapters and dongles to increase peripherals, and even be used with a series of dongles to power another device that needs powered, such as "ext hardrive//disc drive", while still charging the tablet, although this involves quite a few cables, dongles and cords and really is a mess, although it works for those trying to multi task on a device with very few USB ports.

So to answer you original question, YES.

Hi Green,

Thank you for getting me on track.  I understand the problem now.  I do run into this as well.  What I did to solve it is use the following hub.  It works well.  Doesn't take a lot of space in the pouch that I carry the DVP8 in, and each of the ports on the hub are accessible.

I hope that this helps:  www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_22;ie=UTF8&qid=1430352898&sr=1-22&keywords=usb+hub

Good luck!

HI,

Is this what you are looking for??  1 x OTG Cable. These are standard and you can find them in the open market everywhere. I do believe a Kindle Fire HD uses this same cable.

No that is just a single port converter. If you look at the PDF documents I linked, this thing plugs into micro-usb, then exposes two ports, one for charging and one for data/device connections. Here is a screen grab from the user guide:

Considering all the talk about this topic, I'm surprised no one has brought this to our attention before.  I wonder if it's a new product.  If this isn't a mistake, and is really for the Pro 8, a lot of us would like to have one.

Here's a link directly to the user guide: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_tab_mob/esuprt_tablets/dell-venue-8-pro_User%27s%20Guide3_en-us.pdf

Completely agree. My V8P just arrived today (cant wait to get home). I was looking for all the options and reading all the manuals in advance.

This dongle seems really great and I am ready to buy it.

DELL, please help me give you more money, let me know how to buy this.

Can someone from Dell respond as to whether this part will be available soon? ChrisM?

I too would like to have this product. I can't use my USB driven hard drive for backup without the additional power this dongle would provide. I started a chat session with the support group the other day; but it was obvious that they knew nothing about the product, even after I sent a copy of the user manual. I did note that the date of the PFD user manual was 05/2014, it just may be too new and isn't in the system yet.

I am looking into this, first off to see if the device actually exists and if so where it can be purchased.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

The Dell Micro USB dongle mentioned in the users guide is currently underdevelopment and should be available very shortly in Europe.  It will be available later here in the US some time early in August.

Be on the look out for it on Dell.com and I will post here once I receive any further updates.

Don't get your hopes up as I suspect the DVP does not have the 5th pin sensing internal hardware. I have a Lenovo Miix 8, with a USB 7-port hub and it will charge at the same time as using the devices in the 7-port hub, using this cable. The DVP does not charge with this cable!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EJP5XR2/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you read this Wiki, 2/3rds down the page for the OTG, "Three additional ID pin states are defined at the nominal resistance values of 124 kΩ, 68 kΩ, and 36.5 kΩ, with respect to the ground pin"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go

That means the tablet internals have to be able to sens the three different levels. My testing so far shows that the DVP does NOT sense anything other than something plugged in. It may be possible to make an active Y-cable as shown in that PDF that time-cuts the charging between whatever else is using the USB ports, but not convinced that's a good plan.

On the Lenovo I use the powered 7-port hub for a CD drive, keyboard and mouse dongles, printer and backup HDD. All work fine as well as charging. On the DVP it will not charge with that configuration but the USB hub stuff works fine. Just means I need to stop and put it on charge when the battery gets too low.

So, to me, it looks like the DVP ain't got the internals to make it all work. Been wrong before though. :)

I also want/need a multi-port hub that includes at least 2 USB female ports (for wireless mouse and USB drive), 1 micro USB female port (for charging my Dell Venue 8 Pro), and a micro USB male to plug into the Dell Venue 8 Pro.

I have bought several OTG/dongle cables, and none of them will charge the tablet, probably for the reasons cited above.

You are incorrect. There are already devices out there that do exactly what the Dell dongle will do. I am using a cable combination which cost about $8 and data and charging same time works without problems.
