Venue 8 Pro touch screen lag while charging

Hello,

As title says.. While charging, whatever you do with the touchscreen it jitters around losing track of your finger and then getting it back. While in navigation it looks like plain lag/stutter, whereas when trying to use paint you can clearly see that it loses track few times each second.

Anyone faced same issue and know a possible fix? Panel firmware already updated to the latest..

Sincerely,

zxql

Hello,

I have found out what the actual problem is - tablet/charger is fine. It is the outlet. Checking with two other outlets around the house issue could not be replicated and the outlet that I'm using already has a lot of equipment connected and seems to be unstable. Will have to work on better power management around the house.. If anyone else runs into same issues, make sure to use the original charger/cable and try different outlets.

Sincerely,

zxql

Hi, zxql - I haven't seen that at all on my V8P, but. I HAVE seen some odd results with the stylus and TouchMousePointer running at the same time.

Have you checked Task Manager (long press on task bar and select) to see what else is consuming CPU cycles?

Do you have all Dell updates installed?

Hello St. Lamar,

The issue is not related to computer load - no new processes start as I plug in the cable to charge. Touch screen issue starts as soon as I start charging, and end as soon as I unplug the cable. I have updated to A05 BIOS just last night (previously was running on A04) and have tested it this morning. The battery was on 96% when I plugged in to charge and this time it had no screen lag whatsoever. I will try to test it later in the day to see if it's related to how low the battery is while charging (possibly how rapidly it is charging). I have seen similar issues with different smartphones while using inappropriate chargers (higher voltage or higher amps).

Thanks for the reply, will keep the forum updated if I find something out.

Sincerely,

zxql

Edit: The issue is still here.. Plugged in at 80% and the lag returns

phew, I get this problem too and at first I was trying all sorts of things. nearly uninstalled updates that were installed yesterday. was getting frustrated cause the dv8p has been awesome and then all of a sudden I'm seeing this lag! glad I found this. I disconnected from charge and all ok. at work so can't try different outlets but will try when I get home. surely a FW update could fix this though so that it doesn't happen.

Watch out for this problem when using 3rd party chargers. Many make EXCESSIVE RF noise (both radiated and conducted on the DC power wires) which will often interfere with touchscreens. This problem is well known and frequently discussed in off-site cellular forums.

The Dell factory charger's performance is among the best I have ever seen; Many similar looking and similarly spec'd chargers (of the 20 or so I have tried) are useless for my Venue 8.

Interesting, as I have never heard anyone mentioning any touchscreen issue in the use of a 3rd-party charger.
