Venue 8 Pro battery swelling - R.I.P.
I've been increasingly enjoying my lightly used Venue 8 Pro 5830 - mainly for streaming audio and video and web browsing but I've even used it with an audio interface to record choral groups or my own singing. On Windows 10 2004, I think it was working better than ever before.
That all came to an end today, when I noticed the screen was bulging out of the case. Swollen battery! Unfortunately, I applied too much pressure getting the screen detached and it cracked. While it still boots, it's now unusable - sad emoji here.
Now I have a useless pen and a spare 5V, 2A USB power supply to show for my original investment and years of frustration.
Was mine the last one working? There are no recent posts about this model. Mine lasted almost 7 years. Most of the time it was on the charger.

I picked up my tablet today, and unfortunately now see the same situation. Battery bulged and pushed out the screen.
Is this a solvable issue, or is the tablet now done?

I think it is solvable but great care is needed in removing the plastic back that you don't crack the screen. I made the fatal mistake of trying to pry the screen off. Wrong! The screen is sticky taped to a plastic frame that is ever so slightly wider and to which the back is clipped. It's the back you must remove, then unplug the battery, remove its five screws and lift it out. All without cracking the screen which now needs to be reset against the frame.
There is a YouTube video or two on replacing the battery from battery vendors that illustrate the procedure on a normal Venue 8 Pro but you will have to modify it because of the bulging screen. Don't press on it. Don't put the tablet face down on a table to remove the screws and battery.
A replacement battery costs about $120 so that raises two questions:
1. Is it worth replacing?
2. Could the tablet run off a USB power supply without a battery?
