Venue 8 7840 & Netflix App Version 5

My Netflix app updated to version 5.0.5 build 16199 this week. The app no longer will start, and says "The application needs to be restarted. Please launch it again (502-1006)." I have tried restarting the app, but it repeats the same error message. I have tried uninstalling the app and re-installing the app, and restarting the tablet, and these attempts have not helped to get Netflix working again.

This article says Netflix has tried to stop rooted android devices from working with this update, but I have not attempted to root my device. It only has Dell updates on it:

The "What's New" area on the Google Play store says that this app only works with devices certified by Google and meet all Android requirements. I thought that since I can install this app and upgrade it, that this device would be supported.

Is this device Google certified?

I talked with Netflix support. They are trying to work with Google to get all Android devices working with this new DRM technology. They suggested uninstalling the current app and re-installing an older app version here until they figure this out:

Don't worry about the issue. it will be fixed if you can follow the simple instructions that I am going to give you now.

Firs of all,

1. Restart your smartphone or tabelt and connect it to internet and try to open the app again now.

2. If that doesn't work, Try updating the app to it's latest version.

3. As an alternative step, you can also go back to the settings on your android device and delete the app cache.

4. Moreover, you can also uninstall the app and re-install it by downloading it from the official netflix site.

Those instructions may help you to fix that issue and if that doesn't help you, you can go with the netflix alternative apps to watch better than on netflix app.

As I noted, I spoke with a Netflix technician that works with the app code, and the problem was not resolved until they pointed to the link to their older version of the app. I had already tried most of the steps you listed, except the latest version one, because this is a problem with the latest version.
