Venue 7840 Realsense camera "measure" feature not working
I recently got this tablet. The first time I tried taking a few pictures with the 3D realsense camera and then opened the photos with the Gallery app, I was able to use the feature for measuring distance and it worked fine. Some time later, within the first day, I went back to the gallery to try it again and the "measure" feature was grayed out. Clicking on it results in this error message: "Measurement feature is coming soon. We will automatically update your software when this feature becomes available".
Has anyone else seen this issue? It seems something is corrupted in the Gallery software. I would like to reinstall the Gallery but can't figure out how to do that. I did try rebooting the device, it didn't help.
Thanks, any help is appreciated. Kind of a bummer for the "coolest" feature on the tablet to stop working within 24 hours.

Try clearing out your cache:
1) Go to Settings -> Apps -> Gallery
2) Clear data and cache.
Check if your measurement feature is enabled.

I'm having the same issue. Not even a factory reset corrects the issue. Sorry I don't have a solution, but I'm interested to know why this is happening. The only two camera/image-related apps I have are the Camera and the Gallery, while a lot of the previews I see have five other related apps (PhotoDazzle (?), Measure, Snow Globe, and two others I can't read).

I received the update. No affect at first, but I did a factory reset and now I have measurement capabilities. Not too accurate though.

The first thing my tablet did was to install a system update that removed this functionality until a future date when they will reinstate the feature. It may not have been ready for consumer use. Received another system update today but the feature has not ye been restored.

Just got the update. Measuring does work.
Can you tell us what else was in the update?
Thanks

This updated the Dell Gallery (enabled measurement feature) and introduces dynamic calibration for the depth cameras. Please refer to the following article for more information on dynamic calibration: http://www.dell.com/support/article/SLN295772/en

My Real Sense camera (Dell Venue 8 7000) very briefly offered full functionality--for about 1 day-- then all 3D features disappeared. I've cleared cache, I've cleared data from the camera and the gallery. Still nada, nothing, zippo. The 3D features just are not there. Solutions? I'd hate to have to return this device--but I most certainly will (and will not purchase another) unless I can get this most obvious issue resolved. Thanks.

OK, thanks! That build should definitely have the measurements feature functioning. Can you explain what you mean by 3D features disappeared? Are you still able to take a depth picture (you will see the cube icon on the top left hand side of the image in gallery)? Sorry for so many questions. We have not seen this issue before.

adriana,
sure. the "depth snapshot" icon option appears when i turn on the camera. after i take a photo in that mode and tap on the thumbail at the bottom of the screen, a line appears that reads "maximizing depth perception." after about 5 seconds that message disappears, and then the beach ball just spins and spins and spins. thanks for helping to resolve. when i first purchased the machine a few days ago i did briefly see the measurement feature and the depth feature offered after i took a shot.
