Venue 11 Pro Tablet Dock Not Really Dual Display -- Either Tablet and DP or Tablet and DV, but NEVER DP and DV sans tablet

I was really hoping to demonstrate the Venue Pro 11 could replace our dual-monitor laptop configuration via the dock. With any Dell laptop, I can keep the lid shut and use two, 20" monitors.  With the Venue Pro docked, I can only use one of my two monitors -- it will default to the Display Port and never show on the DV port, or when I disconnect the DP, it will show on the DV port, but I can't do an extended dual display using the dp port for one monitor and the dv port for a second.  So much for laptop replacement.

What I said above is not correct.  I have found a way to make it happen, but it requires some iterative display setting changes to make it happen.

First, have both external monitors connected, then dock the tablet and go into display settings.

Choose to display on 1 and 2  (or 1 and 3), then disconnect 1, then extend to 2 and 3.  The display is then extended on two external monitors and the tablet screen is dark.  This is what I wanted.  When I undock, the tablet display comes back to life as expected, and when I redock, it reverts to the two external displays and tablet goes dark, as desired.  Still limited for people that like to do display rotation (not supported I guess).  But, the dual display thing works!!

Looks like you have it figured out. My question to you is how do you have both external displays connected? Native Display port for 1 and HDMI direct with the other, or do you use an adaptor to DVI or VGA? Thank you

HI, thanks for your response. I want to reiterate that we are really happy to have this working -- it even does display rotation! (I have one display vertical and one horizontal, with desktop extended across both. Love it! We are using native display port for one monitor, and HDMI with a DVI adaptor for the other. We haven't tried with a monitor that doesn't at least have HDMI.

I purchased the dock and was disappointed in the display outputs. I returned it to Dell, purchased a Toshiba Dynadock u3.0 and it rocks. Actually has a graphics card in the dock to assist your tablet or laptop.

HDMI and DVI output at the same time, running 2 23 inch monitors, 3 if you wanted to keep the Venue screen on. Worked right off the bat, just download the software from Toshiba, connect the usb 3.0 and away you go. I come home from being on the road, connect power and the usb 3, then all accessories (external hdd, networking, wireless keyboard, sound, etc ) all ready to go. Great product so far.

As a sidenote, to configure your options, this took me a little bit, you can go to your upward arrow on your taskbar for hidden icons, click on the screen icon, you can then set up the monitors easily to turn off your Venue monitor as well as set how your mouse moves from monitor to monitor.

There are other long threads on this already.   We're working to resolve an issue with the desktop dock that caused some configurations (especially those using HDMI to DVI adapters) not to work properly.  This will be resolved very soon.

The 5130 supports the on tablet display and a single external display at FHD.   You can run two external displays, but they can only clone each other.

The 7130 supports the on tablet display and dual external displays at FHD.

Once we have the solution available for the desktop dock, this should work all day long on just about any supported configuration.

I didn't have any major issues on the Dell Dock with exception of I have two nice LCD displays I wanted to use instead one. Old Dell laptops and my Dell port replicator can output to 2 monitors so basically thought the Venue dock would be able to do the same. Thought the build quality and  the way the tablet is positioned was good on the Dell dock.

The only minor issue I had with the dock was I had to unplug the ac connector from the back of the dock to get the image on the external display when resuming from sleep, probably an HDMI handshake issue even though these displays are only 6 months old.

Just to be clear I have a 5130, understand the Dell dock limitations, however I am using the Dynadock and can support 3 monitors out of the box. 2 externals FHD + the tablet display. Not trying to provide free advertising for a competitor but for the same price point and I can connect my Dell laptop in the same manner, well, enough said.

I have this working on the Dell Tablet Dock with 2 external displays in extended desktop mode. Here's how: HDMI to DVI adapter for one monitor Dell displayport to VGA adapter for the 2nd monitor. In the Intel Graphics options I have the output option set to digital display + digital Display 2. The monitors are both Dell E1910H LCD Monitors running at 1440 by 900. The output is very crisp looking on both and even though the 2nd is actually analog, I can't tell the difference. I have a Dell Venue Pro 11 7130.

I have 2 tablets on try and buy and they are going back. Dell says Dock with 2 monitor outputs and it should explain 2 outputs with 1 in use at a time.

hi couple of questions. I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro and the tablet dock. I have a HDMI cable going from the HDMI port on the dock to an HDMI port on monitor one. I then have Displayport to HDMI adapter coming from the diplayport on the dock then connecting to an HDMI cable then connecting to an HDMI port on monitor 2. like everyone else, it seems to only want to work on one monitor until I read your post. For clarification ---- when you say "Choose to display on 1 and 2 (or 1 and 3), then disconnect 1, then extend to 2 and 3." can you help me with that. I have Windows 8.1..... so I go into PC Settings.... PC and devices ---- Display ----it gives me customize your display wih 1 and 2 shown... cant seem to get it to goto 3. from there when you say disconnect.... do you mean to really pull the hdmi cable out? I actually tried that and the other monitor connected to the displayport still didn't take over and come on. not sure what to do next any help would be greatly appreciated.

SWT999, you should take a look at this forum topic.

The dock does work with multiple monitors, but your DP to hdmi adapter may not work. If your monitor does not have a DP connection then you will need an Active DP to DVI adapter. There are links to some in the topic I linked above that other have successfully used.

A SAPPHIRE active DP to DVI works fine, http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?pid=357

together with a normal HDMI to DVI (both displays DELL E248WFP).
