Venue 11 Pro 7130 BIOS confusion with versions

I would like to know which BIOS version applies to the various models of the Venue 11.

In the download section I see 3 versions and want to make sure I'm using the correct version for my tablet:

Venue 11 Pro 7130 MS BIOS

Venue 11Pro 7130 vPro BIOS

Venue 11Pro 7139 vPro BIOS

What is the significance of the MS vs vPro and 7130 vs 7139?

I've posted about this elsewhere on these forums, but I can't find it now.

Look at your 7130.   If you have the thicker version that includes the fingerprint reader and smart card reader (obvious on the back panel of the device), then you need the 7139 version.   (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/dell-venue-11i-pro?driverId=TN1FF&osCode=WB64A&fileId=3341758243&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI)

If not, you're down to 2 options.   Look at the blue sticker on the back of your device.   Does it say "vPro" on it?   If so, you need the vPro version of the BIOS.   (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/dell-venue-11i-pro?driverId=V448X&osCode=WB64A&fileId=3341758253&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI).

If it just says "Core", then you need the MS (Mainstream) version of this BIOS.   (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/dell-venue-11i-pro?driverId=4D8K3&osCode=WB64A&fileId=3341741513&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI).

If you are now using the correct BIOS and it still doesn't flash correctly, please confirm that you are saving the file to your desktop rather than running it straight from support.dell.com (e.g. save or save as rather than run), you are logged into your computer using an account with admin rights and that you have the AC adapter attached.

If all of these criteria have been met and it still isn't working, please provide exact details of the failure or issue you are seeing here.   Let me know if you've done anything special to your system as well (reloading OS, etc).

bump....no response from Dell Tech on this

What model do you have? That determines which bios is right for your tablet. I have 7130 i5 4210Y non-vpro version so I chose the first bios. I don't think you can install wrong bios even if you try.

Here is my info ......product name - Venue 11 Pro 7130 ......info from the Dell system application:

Product:  Venue 11 Pro 7130

BIOS:

Vendor Dell Inc.

Release date 11/20/2013

BOS version string A05

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210Y CPU @ 1.50GHz

I don't see reference to MS or vPro non-vPro.....this is where my confusion comes from

I have the 4300Y 7130.  Messing around I tried all 3 BIOS options.  It would not accept the first one, and it updated with either of the last two and operated fine in both cases.  I know I have vPRO 7130. If you're not sure, start with the first option, it will not load if it's incorrect, then you are most likely option 2.

The i5-4210Y CPU does NOT have vPRO technology.  It is embedded security technology mainly for business.

I hope Dell Support reads this because when I called they could not explain it to me.  They did say that the MS Bios is the correct one for my

Venue 11 Pro (7130) based on my Service Tag.

If anyone was wondering what happens when you accidentally try to load the wrong BIOS version, a very clear error message is provided:

Par for the course, isn't it.  The lack of clear instructions on how to distinguish between machines and their associated BIOS updates is alarming.  This error message makes it quite clear how deep the problem goes.

I have the A05 BIOS and I5-4300Y chip which appears to be associated only with the vpro (received the machine Jan 5th, 2014. I've experienced the ghost fingers only once so lucky there.  I have experienced many lockups where the only solution was push the power button.  Probably an average of once every other day so not too bad.  However, mine just started (23 Feb 2014) experiencing problems on startup after night time MS Win 8.1 update causes a complete battery drain.  Much like the intel problem Smart Connect problem, which I fixed by disabling it.  I'll do the same for the Win 8.1 auto-udpates when I can log in again, seems it won't accept picture password in the low battery state and the onscreen keyboard comes up with no letters and then fails to log in as well.  Perhaps more charge will fix this, which I am applying while typing this note on another computer.

There appears to be a new A10 out there, but there are no modification or change notes!  It's like they just keep throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.  I count 5 Bios updates in a span of two months, that must be some kind of record.

I tried to install the A10 BIOS update (vPro, i5-4300Y) but nothing happened! I downloaded the exe, run it, the system booted but nothing happened. It still says that my BIOS is A06. Also tried to flash from USB by selecting the exe from boot menu, and same thing happened: system booted but nothing happened. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my tablet or the A10 exe? I'm getting a bit upset with all the numeros issues on Venue 11 Pro...

Seeing the same exact thing.  Just wrote about it on another thread.

I too am seeing this, currently at A05.  Nothing works to update to A10. Not only that but there are two sets of diametrically opposed instructions on the website for updating.  Just give us the bios file and we can use the current bios setup to do it.  The .exe does not work for me.

I5-4300Y 7130 4GB.

In addition, and perhaps related, after a recent Windows update, Picture password isn't working at all and the time to boot and get connected to wifi has gone from a few seconds to over a minute or two.

All those criteria were met and it didn't work... I have the vPro sticker. ;) LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I run the exe, it starts doing something and then the tablet restarts straight to desktop. That's it, nothing else happens. Same thing happens when trying to flash from boot menu and USB stick.

I have the same problem. My tablet is definetely a vpro, tha't what the sticker say.

It came with bios A06. I successfully updated it to A09. Now I cannot update to A10.

I use the correct file, but after the update finishes it is still on A09.

I even tried full factory restore, but nothing happens.

The log file says something like:

unable to prepare bios update payload

What should I do ?

I definitely have the vPro on the blue sticker.  No fingerprint or card reader so 7130 vPro.  I used the appropriate Bios version.  Loaded it to Downloads and ran from there.  Run as Admin and have the AC adapter attached.

I moved it to the Desktop to try and repeated.  The file runs and a dialog pops  up with "BIOS Update Program".  Hit Ok, and another dialog pops up with "Confirm BIOS Replacement" showing my A05 and the new target A10.  I notice the A10 update has several lines that A05 did not have.  Click "Ok" and it shows a "Preparing to Update" dialog with progress meter.  It gets to 100% then it restarts.  Log back in and it appears as if nothing has changed.  If I rerun the program it says I have A05 still.   I've verified by logging into the BIOS Setup.  A10 did not flash.

Never reloaded OS, however, now considering it.  A day or so before I did a Windows 8.1 update and it  appeared to affect the system (slower boot and no pic password working).  Since a couple days ago the following are listed in the Win Update History.  KB2267602 (this one was after the problems), KB2919394, KB890830, KB2267602, KB2934802, KB2267602 on 22nd WinDef 1.167.428.0, KB2267602 (on 21st) Win Def 1.167.338.0.  The others in the history are before the problems.

Haven't reloaded OS yet, but probably will later this week and this time set some restore points.
