Venue 11 pro 5130: microphone quality is extremely bad!

The microphone is even worse than my old laptop, sounds are like coming from deep inside a well.

I heard that this model has double mics to reduce noise, well, distant noises are indeed screened, but nearby voices are so bad, not even good enough for web talking.

I'D LIKE TO KNOW whether others with the same model suffer the same issue.

I'D ALSO LIKE TO KNOW where the two microphones are on the model.

So, anyone who knows, please tell me

For those of you trying to use external microphones, please check the following. This fixed most of our problems today:

  1. Click on the Control Panel

  2. Select ‘Hardware and Sound’

  3. At the bottom, select ‘Dell Audio’

    1. Click on the ‘microphone’ tab

    2. Select ‘Levels’

    3. Change Microphone Boost to +30db and ‘Recording Volume’ to UN-MUTE and FULL level.

Up to now no one has replied this thread, is it that the model is designed with a bad mic quality or is it that the one I've got in hand is problematic. There's no way to improve the mic quality after a few days of trying

I tried a few times to use my 5130 for Skype but it is hopeless.

Other side says my voice is like coming from a deep well.

Useless.

I can verify that on all three DVP11s (5130) I had, microphone recording is not good. Playing around with the settings in Audacity, with the microphone at 100%, voice distortion is severe with my head about 15 inches from the tablet, conversation-level volume. When sitting back further, about 36 inches away, distortion reduces but increases white noise. Setting the microphone to 85-90% seems to control distortion somewhat but sacrifices volume and voice "fullness". Either way, recording quality seems very low. - Woody

Yes the mic is really bad. I get complaints in Skype all the time I sound all muffled.

MY 7130 when it worked was not so bad. I've noticed that my cameras in the 5130 and 7130 are different and seems the mics are too.

Have anyone found a solution for this ?

I have the same problem, and with the quality i get when trying to record sound in OneNote, MS recorder or during videos it is completely hopeless.

I perform a test using Audacity on LUbuntu 18.04. At 100% level, there is a clipping which cause unaudible connection.

At the level of 45 % and the silent ambience, there is clean fan sound at the left channel and clipping at the right channel.

At the level of 33 % and the silent ambience, there is clean fan sound at both channels with different level: 0 dB at the right channel and -6 dB at the left one.

The same conditions but removed cover - minus 6 and minus 10 dB.

Conclusion: The microphone is affected by the cooler fan. Cover increases the noise level.

Recommendations:

1. To use only the channel, which is more distant from the fan, in Venue 11 it is left one (set appropriate balance of recording). In LUbuntu to access the balance the button with the lock icon should be released.

2. To open the cover.

3. To close all other programs and set the air conditioner/heating termostat for cooler air.
