Re-imaging the Dell Venue Pro 8
It's been a very frustrating and time-consuming past few days.
I've been struggling with finding a way to backup and restore my DVP8.
There are so many confusing words and jargon used in this endeavour.
Allow me first to describe in as simple a way as possible just what I am trying to do.
I have installed a bunch of legacy Windows programs onto my DVP8.
I am not interested in 'Metro apps'.
I have also customized WIn 8.1 on the tablet to do things the way I want to do (a bunch small things and big things).
Now that my c: drive is all set up the way I like with all the Win programs installed and everything, I would simply like to create an image of the c: drive and place it on another drive (internal sd card or USB flash) in such a way that it can be re-imaged onto c: at any time I like.
For example lets say two weeks from now after installing various programs and changing various settings I want to go back to the image I have saved, how can I do this?
I have met roadblocks and stumbling blocks with all the 'standard' ways of backing up.
I tried Win 8.1 image recovery, backup, Dell backup etc., AOMEI backup app, EaseUS todo backup etc.
Nothing has worked.
Can someone please explain a simple, effective *foolproof* way to do what I would like to do?
TIA!

Just a follow-up.
I got Macrium Reflect to do the re-image/backup job about a month ago. :emotion-1:

I think that you're going to need explain what the problems have been. As a regular Windows computer, you should be able to use any of a number of programs, including those mentioned by you, to image the DV8P drive.

OK let me begin with one of the last ones I tried: AOMEI Backupper.
When I installed the program on my desktop (WinXP) I had no problems running any of its many functions and seeing my c: drive with drive space used/available.
When I installed the program on my DVP8, no matter which of its many functions I chose, it would not show my c: drive!
Then I tried to run it in Win 7 mode and all the way down to WinXP SP3 mode.
Finally in WinXP mode I could see the c: drive but it was empty !!!
And of course it wouldn't let me image the drive because it said it couldn't image an empty drive!
As I said, each attempt I made at imaging the DVP8 I was met with roadblocks. This was just one of the last ones.
Again, I'd just like to hear from someone (anyone) who has a method to image c: drive that works.
With all the details of course. :)

According to AOMEI website forum information, AOMEI Backupper does not yet support eMMC storage, which the DV8P uses; hence, it does not see the DV8P partitions, etc. My experience was similar to yours (although, interestingly, Backupper could see files and folders at a folder, as vs. partition, level).
In contrast, EaseUS Todo Backup Home 6.5 did not seemingly have any issue seeing both partitions and folders/files on the DV8P. You might try it again.

Thanks Mike for taking the time to help, I appreciate it.
I was able to see the partitions with EaseUS todo backup, as you did, however there were problems.
It wouldn't backup the c: main drive of around 17G used onto my 16G flash drive. You would think compression would have allowed it to fit, but it didn't even give me that option.
So I tried the next option, backup the 4G (factory reset portion). It started to backup this 4G onto my 16G flash drive. Then it started giving estimated times of completion. At the beginning it was giving 15 min.
Then after a few minutes this stretched to 30 min., then 60 minutes!
I said to myself this is ridiculous! I use PING (Linux ISO) to backup my desktop c: drive which is 25G.
It takes about 15-20 minutes! This EaseUS couldn't even backup my 4G factory reset partition in one hour!
Imagine how long it would take to backup my DVP8 17G c: partition if I had the space on my flash drive!

Well, you could try another program. Or just let the backup proceed, figuring that you're not going to be doing this very often . . . .

Yes I suppose so.
If anyone has done this (imaged their 32G c: drive) in less than an hour
and then was able to successfully re-image it at a later time, I'd appreciate hearing how you did it.
