Put Dell Venue 7840 into Recovery Mode

Our company just purchased a Dell Venue 7840 from Best buy to test using it in our stores. Someone setup a password on it and we can no longer get into it. I can get to the firmware screen and can select recovery, however, after it boots, I can't get the recovery menu to come up so that I can wipe it and reinstall the software. Can someone tell me how to do a complete factory reset when you can't get into the device? Thanks.

So I just went through this, and the steps Ii saw were:

1.  From power off, hold down vol down and power buttons until the Dell logo appears

2.  Use vol down to select Recovery, then press power to select

3. Tablet will boot to the 'No command' screen.

At this point it's a little fuzzy.  I pressed power and vol up together three times.  Not sure it it has to be three times or I just didn't press them together properly, but that brings up the next options menu which includes eraasing cache, erasing user data/dfactory reset, reboot, and something like load update from sdcard (sorry, can't remember)

Boot into to Temporary CWM (using the T3 method) with these tools: Intel Android Root

and then do the wipe data/factory reset, it will reset it to factory.

That won't work because I can't enable the usb debugging from the settings unless I get into the device.

Really? Cool. What do you consider fastboot? I see it says I need the fastboot drivers, Do you know are they generic or can I only get them from Dell?

You should still be able to get it into Fastboot manually and push the Temporary CWM.

Intel ADB drivers will do it: Intel Drivers

You have to install it in Win 7/8 compatibility mode if using WIndows 8.1.

I found a simpler way...

"If that happens, shut down the tablet, hold volume up and power, when you see the Dell logo, let go. This should get you back into DroidBoot menu, choose recovery.

Once on that screen, all I saw was the "no command" icon (droid with red caution sign on its belly).
Keep hitting volume up a bunch of times and you will eventually get some options; one of which is to restore to factory."

Well I couldn't get that to work on mine. I pressed it at least a hundred times or so. I broke down and called Dell Support and after trying the same options as everyone else already suggested, they told me to send it in.

I did find out that it should work the way the standard Android system does. When you get the Droid on it's back with the Red ! triangle, you should be able to just press and hold volume up, press power and let both go. That is supposed to bring up the menu and allow me to reset it.

This method did not work for me either.  in my case the tablet (which I barely use) was being used to browse Facebook and simply crashed.  After that, and trying the recovery method, the only thing I get is a usb icon and sometimes a battery with a question mark.  Anybody having the same issue and if so, how did you solve it? I know that my problem might not be hardware related.
