PN557W pen loses connectivity often
The PN557W stylus is nice, I like how it magnetically attaches to my Dell 7285 but just disconnects way too often. This has been an issue with most of the Dell styluses I've used but normally it's weeks in between. The PN557W disconnects at least 2 or 3 times and hour, if you unscrew the pen, release the battery then reinsert it reconnects. It'll disconnect in the middle of a session, so I don't think it's going to powersave mode or anything. Hope Dell can come up with a solution. The best pen I've used for Dell devices is the Huawei Matepen. Too bad the price is like triple, over $100 but works great and can be charged via usb. Any ideas for the Dell PN557W ?

I have the same issue. My Pen suddenly stops responding while I'm taking notes. Then I try to remove the battery and put it back; sometimes it works and sometimes I just wait for it to randomly works again. This **bleep**!

Hi,
If the bluetooth connection is dropping very frequently it's normally a sign of the bluetooth driver being out of date or it's not paired correctly with the laptop to maintain a stable connection.
I would recommend updating the bluetooth driver to the latest revision and then removing the paired bluetooth connection for the stylus and then pairing it again with the system.
I would also recommend replacing the coin cell batteries on the stylus as those batteries are responsible for the bluetooth functionality on the stylus. If you are still having problems after trying these steps, please get back in touch.
Thanks,
Alan

Hi,
I have the same issue: A PN557W pen paired with a Latitude 5285. After some hours/days the pen shortcuts stops working when I press the top button.
After I re-pair the pen, the shortcut works again for some hours/days.
I'm running the latest drivers, BIOS and Windows 10 version.
My pen batteries are fairly new, and since the pen works fine after re-pair, I don't think the batteries are the reason.
How can I fix this annoying problem?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Claus

Also having these issues with this pen on a 7390 2-in-1. Right now bluetooth buttons are working fine, but pen features are not, fresh AAAA battery and they were working until a few minutes ago... Seems random on when it comes and goes. As a case in point, it was NOT working when I started typing this message and reading this thread. It is now working.

We are having the same issue. I work in the helpdesk for our university. All of our new student's were issued 7390 2n1s along with the Dell 557W Active Pen. We've had a handful of students complain to us that their pen stops working in the middle of note-taking for a few words and then comes back. Does not appear to be a battery issue and all the drivers are updated.

Hi Alan,
You are not really answering the real question.
The BT is the minor issue!
can someone from dell reply on the main issue that the pen randomly stops working (with new batteries!)

I am having the exact same problem on a 7390 latitude 2-in-1
All the latest drivers installed and fresh batteries. The rest of my bluetooth devices work fine so it's obviously the pen.

We issued all of our math teachers at our 3 high schools 5289 2 in 1 laptops last December. We have replaced all of the active pens once from Dell under warranty. They are still having the same issues. We need a resolve to this problem.

I have this exact same problem with my 7389. I even got Dell to replace the pen since it was under warranty. However, the issue persists. All drivers and firmware are up to date and the batteries are brand new. Issue is happening on Win 10 Pro 1803 and 1809. Basically renders the stylus useless since it cuts out in the middle of note taking. Is Dell aware of this and are they working on a fix?

I'm facing the same problems with my latitude 7389 and I don't think it's to do with battery life, changed battery just now, still having the problems, despite driver updates (bluetooth, chipset, bios, etc). In fact, when I got the notebook+pen beginning this year everything worked smoothly, it was real nice to use the pen, since it never lost connection.
I have the feeling after some updates (maybe even a windows update) it doesn't work at all anymore, the behavior of the pen is that erratic that I'm not able to write a single word. This renders the pen completely useless and I'm disappointed that DELL hasn't really done anything to solve this problem so far...
It would be very much appreciated if something happens in the near future.
Best, Stefan
