Lollipop for venue 8 7840 tablet

What is this time table going to get the lollipop update? The 3rd date has come and gone "4/21/15", and still nothing. I need to move things to SD card as internal storage is full. I have bought 2 computers and this tablet in past year and have gathered from calls to support that you don't care much about your customers once the item is sent. I will not deal with Dell anymore. I will go back to HP.

KBWELLS WROTE THE FOLLOWING POST AT 9 MAY 2015 9:04 AM:

Installed 5.0.2 on my 7840, used to have 1 "home" screen and 4 other screens to store apps on, Now I only have 1 "home" screen with no other screens to flip through. Am I missing something?

Just try to drag and drop an app past either edge of the screen. It will create another page.

I sent this out to every tech blog I could think of regarding the lollipop upgrade for the 7840.  Hopefully we can get some answers.

I'm providing you this information in the hopes you can get some answers for consumers who have purchased the Venue 7840 tablet from Dell.  Dell promised that lollipop would ship with the tablet.  It didn't, but Dell stated that it would be released as an OTA in February.  They missed that date and moved it to March.  Then in March they pushed it back to April 21st.  On the 20th of April, a Dell employee got on their forum and stated that the OTA rollout was still slated to commence on the 21st of April (the following day).  On April 21st, THE DAY OF RELEASE, the same employee stated that there was a problem with the OTA and that it was being delayed AGAIN.  Now Dell and this employee have gone completely radio silent.  No reason was given for the 4th delay and no updates as to when customers can expect the lollipop update.  This tablet is a 16gb tablet that ships with a paltry 8.7gb available out of the box.  The lollipop update is supposed to re-enable the "move to sd" function so that consumers can load more apps and games.  My tablet is maxed out.  Here is the thread on Dell's forum where you can follow all the information (lies) from the Dell representative.

Could you please run a story or at least attempt to reach out to Dell to see what is going on with the Venue 7840 lollipop update which has been delayed 4 times now?  Thanks so much!

If you seek to understand why customer doing this way, you will never blocking like this.

Customers have right to know what is going on for OTA lollipop update.

You should explain to your customers what is the root cause of delay and when customer will get update. This is the right way you should do..

Dell needs to make this right! There's plenty of customers looking for answers. Dell Terry can come back here or someone else from Dell. You guys shouldn't have public forums if you don't want public discussions of your products and your support, or lack of support, behind them!!

Public yes, but you WILL adhere to the Forum Terms of Use. DELL-Chris M

I am not the Liaison for Mobility devices. I am here simply to rein in the Forum violations.

Dell is completely within their rights to do as they wish within the limits they've set for the forum. And it is our duty to keep asking when we will get straight answers and reasonable customer service. And keep asking. And keep asking.

When you shout or get vindictive it reduces your credibility, including with other wronged customers who are potential supporters.

Just keep asking. Publicly (the private message suggestion from Dell was insulting at best).

It appears you all missed why I wanted this done. DELL-Terry B is our teams contact with the Mobility team. If anyone has information, it will be him. By sending him private messages, you prompt him to action.

Understood, best to spell that out at the outset if possible, especially given Terry's previous attention to the now closed thread and lack thereof now. You might see how it seems a bit off to your customers. Was the closed thread started by sending a private message?

I have very little information that I haven't already shared.  The Android Lollipop update for the Venue 8 7840 was scheduled on the 21 and that there was a technical glitch at the last moment delaying the update.  Dell is working on getting all issues resolved and hope to have the OTA available as soon as possible.

I will continue to post any information as soon as I receive it.

Thanks. What was the technical glitch? At this point I think specifics need to be given to the customers so we know Dell isn't lying about this update. Frankly, as it's been pointed out many, many times, this update has been promised to us since January. Do you really expect us to believe that in 4 months time Dell hasn't been able to get it together and release an update? And on the very day of the last supposed OTA release, an issue was found at last minute?

Again, to put any faith into Dell and this whole fiasco, more concrete information is needed and would be very appreciated as to what, exactly, is going on. Thanks.
