Latitude 7350 missing Hibernate option
Hi,
I am new in this community. Hope some one could help me as I have recently got myself a Latitude 7350 2-in-1 and I could not find the Hibernate option anywhere. I have searched through the internet and followed the Win8.1 Hibernate discussion but yet I still could not find the Hibernate option.
Is this Hibernate option purposely being removed from this model ? I understand that DELL Venue have this option available. Now the only choice is that I have the Shutdown the tablet whenever not using as the Sleep mode is draining the battery quite fast. This is a real hassle as I am used to using laptops with Hibernate option all the time.
Please help. Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards.

Ah, I found it!
From the Power Options\System Setting page, toward the top there is a link titled "Change settings that are currently unavailable." Clicking that open up the possibility to change all the options under Shutdown Settings. The advantage of this is that is adds "Hibernate" to the Shutdown options.
You also have Hibernate as an option for things like "When you close the lid" and "when you press the power button."
I third possibility is found by clicking on one of the Power Plans, then Change Plan Settings, then Change Advanced Power Settings. This brings up a Window that includes Sleep. Expand "Sleep" and that adds some setting options for Hibernate such as Hibernate after x minutes. (I think this means after x minutes of being in Sleep mode.)
Here's a helpful website: www.windows10update.com/.../windows-10-tutorials-60-how-to-enable-or-disable-hibernate
(The one thing that didn't work from the web site for me was the powercfg/h on/off switches.)

I too have a new Latitude 7350 and have the same question. I can find the dialogue box from Control Panel (Power Options --> System Settings) where under "Shutdown Settings", it lists Sleep, Hibernate, and Lock as check boxs (only Hibernate is not checked). But all these boxes are grayed out. I can change any of them. Does the 7350 have all these settings set in advance?
Thanks.

Hi RWRAD,
Can you tell me specifically where did you go to ? I went into Power Options but could not find System Settings option as you mentioned.
Btw, did you manage to "checked" the Hibernate option ? If yes, is it workable ?
Thanks in advance.

HI Chrissong,
I'm running Windows 10. From the Control Panel, I just did a search for Power Options, but the whole path is Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings. (The link that got me to System Settings was "Choose What Closing the Lid Does.")
Then from Shutdown Settings, there are four checkboxes (Turn on Fast Startup, Sleep, Hibernate, and Lock). All but Hibernate are checked. All are grayed out. I can't change any of them.
In exploring this issue on the web yesterday, I found this note: "Hibernate is a power-saving state designed primarily for laptops, and might not be available for all PCs (PCs with InstantGo don't have the hibernate option)." (http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2859-hibernate-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html
So I wonder if the 7350 runs InstantGo (may be the equivalent of the "Fast Startup" check box) and that is why all the usual shutdown options are grayed out. InstantGo is supposed to extend battery life (see this blog: http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2014/06/19/instantgo-a-better-way-to-sleep/), but like you I find that having to use Sleep instead of Hibernate is a huge battery drain.
Hope someone can help with his or confirm that this is not changeable on the 7350.
[Just found a command (powercfg /a) that shows if InstantGo is running on your machine and found that it is not. Running this command produced the following:
The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected
Hibernate
Fast Startup
So the 7350 is not running InstantGo and Hibernate should be an option.]

Ahh.... I am still using Win8.1.... No wonder I could not find the option you mentioned.
Please let us know whether is the Hibernate working well. On top of that, how is Win10 on this model ? Good ?? I dare not update fearing that the drivers may kill my unit as it is still new.
Thanks a lot for your reverts.

Hi ChrisSong,
My daughter's computer is running Windows 8.1 and I found the same settings on hers to turn on Hibernate just as I did on mine running Windows 10.
From the Windows Start screen, type "Control Panel" in the Search window. Then once you have the Control Panel window, search the Control Panel (top right) for "Power Options." From the Power Options page, click on the link to "Choose what closing the lid does." That will take you to the System Settings page. Scroll down and you will see the "Shutdown settings." Check, Hibernate. If it is grayed out and won't check, go back to the top of the page and click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable." That should allow you to select Hibernate in the Shutdown settings.
I would not be afraid of the Windows 10 upgrade. My IT department is routinely doing the upgrade on all new machines. I used to use Windows 7 and my understanding is that Windows 10 has brought back some of the features of Windows 7 that were liked and were lacking in Windows 8.
I like having Hibernate back and don't loose battery power in Hibernate like I did in Sleep.
Hope this works for you.

Hi RWRad,
Further to that, I tried "powercfg /H" as well as "powercfg /HIBERNATE", both these commands are returning "Invalid parameter".
Really looks like I am out of luck with Win8.1.
Regards.

Hi RWRad,
Thanks for your prompt reply. However, I have been using a lot of laptops and do not have any problem locating the Hibernate feature except for this particular DELL model. Just out of curiosity, is your daughter also using this particular DELL model ?
I followed exactly as per your instruction and all I see is only "Turn on fast startup", "Sleep" and "Lock". Hibernate is not an available feature.
If you are using Win10 on this particular DELL model, most probably they have added this feature back for this model.
Thank you once again.

Hi RWRad,
Forgot to mentioned that I tried the command as you mentioned "powercfg /a" and I got the same result as you where "Hibernate" is supposed to be an available feature.
Thanks.

Hi ChrisSong,
I'm sorry this is not working out for you. Very strange!
My daughter's computer running Windows 8.1 is a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1, so no, not the same as ours.
Like you the powercfg /h on/off switches did not work for me. Interesting that the powercfg /a identifies that Hibernate is an option for your machine, as it did for mine.
When you go to Control Panel\Power Options\System Settings, is Hibernate an option under the functions "when I press the power button" or "when I close the lid"? If so, you might try getting to Hibernate one of those ways.
If all this fails, it would be nice if an actual Dell technician would respond to your issue.

Hi RWRad,
As 7350 model is not really a laptop but more of a tablet hybrid, I suppose that may be the reason for not having the Hibernate. If we compare with other tablet i.e. iPad or any Android tablet, the Hibernate feature is not available also.
Since the Hibernate feature could not be found in order to turn it on, that goes the same for the "power button" and "close lid" functions were not given the selection to Hibernate as well.
Actually, I did try to get assistance from DELL but so far not getting any result as well.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your assistance.
Btw, do give me your feel in using Win10 on this model. I am curious as too how good Win10 is.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards.
