KitKat update and battery drain

I have been searching on the internet and have not seen this issue yet with the Dell Venue 7.  Has anyone been experiencing battery drainage from this update?  My Android OS is sucking the life out of my battery since the big update.  As I write this, my battery has been in and out of sleep mode for a little over 10 hours with the Android OS running at 56 percent and I have 19 percent battery life left.  This was not the situation prior to the update; I could leave it on all day long running various apps and still have plenty of battery life left.  What can I do to improve battery life?  I look forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Have you tried shutting down your tablet and restarting it?  I shut it down and restarted it 2 days ago and it has been working like a charm for me!  My tablet has been in sleep mode for almost 24 hours and after playing a couple of games, I still have 82% battery.  The Android OS has only used 8%....a far cry from what I had originally experienced with the update.

You certainly have company.  The Android Kernel now shows up as the #1 battery hog using 10-20X as much as with 4.3.  I can not get through a full day without charging it and it uses 24% of the battery while sleeping overnight!

None of thos worked so I formatted the card and reset the tablet but still no-go.  I called Dell and they had me reset the tablet from the boot menu and it still did not recognize the SDCARD but later, I tried another card and it was recognized.  Then when I inserted the original card, it worked!  Battery life is OK now too.
