HELP! Venue 8 won't boot
I have a venue 8 3840 tablet and it seems to be in a boot loop. If u start it the screen flashes for a second then there is a snowy line at the bottom of the screen. It will go between that and dark screen until I do a shutdown with power button and sound down. Any ideas?

· Press and hold the Volume Down + Power button for 5 seconds. Release the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume Down button for another 3 seconds. This will load FastBoot mode.
· Use the Volume Down to select the third option and press Power button to boot into RECOVERY mode.
· In RECOVERY mode, press the Power button + Volume Up to display RECOVERY mode menu.
· In recovery mode use Volume Down to select the wipe data/factory reset option and press Power button.
· Confirm wipe of all data. Use the volume down to select Yes -- delete all user data and use the power button to begin the reset.
· After Reset has been completed use Volume button to select reboot system now option and press Power button to reboot system.

I had the same issue. I had to do a factory reset to fix the issue. I believe I had to hold the volume down ace power buttons at the same time.

Do you get to the screen where you can do a recovery? This is where I was able to choose to do a factory reset.

No, all I get is a blank screen with a small of band of white at the bottom. This comes on for a few seconds and then off over and over again.

Here is what I did, it worked for me.
Power off device.
Press and hold Volume Down then press and hold Power (still holding Volume Down) until it starts to boot.
Select Recovery.
Get the red triangle / dead Android guy.
Press and hold Power then tap Volume Up once.
Wipe cache partition (wait till it says completed).
Wipe data / factory reset (wait till it says completed).
Reboot.

I will try to respond to AuntLaurel and to the Dell guy.
My tablet (same model) has the same problem.
I did a factory reset months ago. Tablet worked, but problem came back. I did factory reset, worked, but problem came back.
Now I can do a factory reset and it never works problem stays.
I am looking for some solution.
Thanks, Tom

Thank you. I could never get anywhere with Dell so I hope you have better luck. At this point I have all I have is an expensive paper weight. Even worse that they were Christmas presents.

I had the same issue with my Dell Venue 8 3840. Unfortunately i couldn't reset the device using the physical buttons just as some people recommended. What i had to do was to basically flash the device using the open source files that dell offers. The link to the files is provided below. Just go into the Doc/ folder where you can find a PDF file with all the instructions. All you need to do is to follow the instructions for part A. I think this will void your warranty, but it works.
